I guess my first Mexican was out of a can. Dad loved tamales and always got a can at Christmas. Then I went to Chi-Chi’s in high school. Now I live in a city with more than 800 taquerias.

John G, I don't know if you saw this the other day.

I thought the staging was quite interesting as to what a full Broadway staging of a number can be in 2025.

I'd imagine Lea Michele's fan base is feeling very satisfied that they're getting their $300-and-up worth.   Yet I wonder how this would play with a non-star.

It’s a tradition here to have tamales on Christmas Eve. Sometimes I follow that. I buy them. I made them once, but it takes more than one person to make them. An army of helpers would be nice.

I did see it. The song was written for Judy Kuhn, who still owns it, IMO, but she’s good. Michele is making it her own.

As for the staging, well, the song is all about Florence. Perhaps there’s too much staging? Or not the right kind? You could have the chorus hem her in.

How do you feel Elaine Paige figures into it?  (There's a point where she starts making with flapping her arms that seems to get some snarky comments in the YouTube comments.)

I guess this might have been the "MTV-style version."

The arm-flapping by Elaine Paige starts on "Everybody's playing the game / But nobody's rules are the same."

DR Elmore, remember I used to make nachos at cast parties?  Do those count?

I forgot! And Andrea had taco parties, too, between 1975and 1979.

I'm not sure whether that was from the time when Elaine Paige and Tim Rice were a couple.

I found it interesting that Tim Rice tried to (or maybe even did) write a lyric for a moment (maybe "Memory") in CATS - which of course we now know wasn't used.

This is from the Wikipedia page for CATS:
However, "Memory", an 11 o'clock number for Grizabella that Nunn insisted the show needed as its "emotional centre",still had no lyrics at this point. Lloyd Webber's former writing partner Tim Rice was brought in to write a lyric for the song, but his version was rejected by Nunn for being too depressing. The lyrics for "Memory" were not completed by Nunn until well into the previews.

I just leaf-blew the thin layer of dry snow we got overnight before anyone could drive on it and flatten it into a layer of ice.

Mission accomplished in time, thank goodness.

TOD

I have no idea when or where I first had Mexican food. I suspicion it wasn't until I moved to L.A. at age 22, MAYBE the year before when I first visited California for a week, but I don't remember it at any time or place in my life before that. Which seems odd. But back then, maybe not.

Worse, I have no idea where in L.A. I did have my first, or what exactly I had. It was most likely fast food, I do recall my first quesadilla at an El Taco. Of course that wouldn't have been much of a quesadilla, but I thought it was delicious. Living right behind Hollywood Blvd., I must have sampled things from here and there, I just wish I had some actual memories of what those first things would have been. I do know that one of my earliest sit-down chains was Red Onion, which I loved, and El Torito was another. But I've loved Mexican food from those first days on. It's one of those things I really could eat every day.

Speaking of guacamole...

Again, one of my favorite things. DR George should pass all of his over here. That way, there won't be any left on the table to embarrass us when they bring the check.

I do remember my first taste of an avocado. I'd been in L.A. for a couple of months when someone took us to a place called Horticulture Holiday on the Sunset Strip, and they had me try the avocado from a large salad plate. HOOKED. From that day forward. I could eat avocados every day, and occasionally do.

We had Mexican food from Rosa Mexicano last night.  Skip had their chickens tacos and I had the brisket enchiladas (which sounds to me like a mix of Jewish and Mexican).

There's some leftover guacamole in the fudge.

There were some extraordinary looking (and tasting) avocado slices on the chicken tacos!

I think Zelle is Bank of America only? I have it and it works great and is instant. If someone's paying you over 1K for the first time, then it takes a day or two to clear. It works on computers or online BofA - all you need to do is set it up and give someone the email address to which your account is linked. That's it.

I'm up, I'm up - four and a half hours of sleep. It happens. But I'd gotten five hours in the late afternoon and evening. Alarm was set for eight-thirty, but I think I'll leave ten minutes early and put gas in the motor car first.

Would it be untowards to post more fully-clothed videos of that same dance troupe to get us to page 3?

I'm fascinated to know from a YouTube-uploader point of view whether they actually make a living from such stuff in "real life," or maybe it's that they earn $$$ from YouTube views, which they seem to get in droves?  I don't see any videos where they perform for a live audience.

DR Jane - have you ever heard of a bernedoodle?

Yes, and while they are very cute I would be very hesitant to get one unless it was a rescue.  My Berner (short for Bernese Mt. Dog) friends who breed quality Bernese Mt. Dogs truly dislike them, mostly because the breeders use poor Berners for breeding them.

Jane - I saw in my online chart that the "eye photo" test the doctor had me take last Wednesday is specifically defined as being because of diabetes.  So I guess it's not a routine test taken for seniors.

I'll hear any results at my next appointment Wednesday afternoon, but am REALLY hoping that if there's a problem needing attention, he'll contact me before then.

I can only guess that my first Mexican food was at Olvera Street.  Later I loved going there for the best toquitos.
