NO MORE TUMULT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday was not as horrifying as I thought it would be. The Mold People came, said things weren’t as bad as I’d been led to believe, then changed their tune (they had been singing Feelings, and then began singing Love Me or Leave Me). They ended up finding more mold but still less than they could have. It’s all confined to about a third of the master bathroom. They’ll have to rip up some tiles and some of the shower floor, but it’s not disastrous, at least that’s what we’re all hoping. They took care of the mold in the garage, although they still have to break through some dry wall leading into the second bedroom’s closet, to treat just a bit that got onto that wall. In order to have them do that, however, I must box up about six hundred CDs and they’ll have to then take down the shelving unit, but we do what we must do. After that, the plumber comes in and fixes the shower pan and a couple of broken pipes, then someone else comes in and puts the whole thing back together again. It’s very disruptive and I do hate this sort of break in my routine. The water heater will not be hooked up again until Wednesday or Thursday, so it will either be cold showers or going elsewhere. What we call this is tumult. Yes, tumult is what we call this. I do not care for tumult, frankly, or even stevely. So, for the next few days, for reasons I will go into shortly, I will need your most potent vibes and xylophones coming in this direction. If I have your most potent vibes and xylophones coming in this direction then I feel the tumult will be lessened and that I will be able to get through the next two or three weeks handily. So, send them along and keep sending them. And, of course, I send mine to whomever needs them.

Yesterday, we rehearsed the new number for Tammy. She’s really taken to it, and I have a sneaking suspicion it will work better than Joshua Noveck did in that most critical spot in Act One. In any case, we shall see what we shall see. She thinks she’ll be ready for it to go in on Thursday night. We’ll be rehearsing two more days (just a couple of hours each day) and our lighting designer will be joining us to adjust a couple of light cues and add one cue within the number (I’m basically using the Noveck cues with a couple of internal changes). Even if the new song doesn’t land perfectly, I still think it will be better for that spot in the show, as it is a lot perkier than the previous song. It’s always both nerve-racking and thrilling to put in a new number. I shall keep you posted as to its progress.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I feel there’s a bit too much tumult in this here section.

You see, there is less tumult in this section. That must mean that your excellent and potent vibes and xylophones must be heading in this direction. Thanks in advance to one and all and also all and one.

Last night I watched a motion picture on DVD, another of the Universal Noir collection – this one entitled The Big Clock (which was actually a Paramount picture). It’s a cleverly clever story and a wonderful little film. Ray Milland is solid as always, and Charles Laughton is great as Earl Janoth. Faboo support from Mrs. Laughton, Elsa Lanchester, as an eccentric artist, and from the always reliable George Macready (who I just saw in The Alligator People, not to be confused with The Mold People). The set design on the film is very deco and really well done. And the score by Victor Young is quite good, too. The female lead is Maureen O’Sullivan and the film is directed by her husband and papa to Mia, John Farrow. The transfer is merely adequate, and nowhere near as nice as the other Universal Noir titles. It’s very contrasty and a bit too dark, but it’s certainly watchable.

No more tumult, that’s what I say. Tumult be damned. Tumult be gone. Tumult vamoose or, at the very least, vamelephant.

Now wait just a darned minute – I do believe we’ve got us a birthday to celebrate. I do believe we’d best put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, I do believe we’d better break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, I do believe we’d better dance the Hora or the Continental, because our very own Swishy Sarah turns seventeen this very day. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to Swishy Sarah. On the count of three or the duke of four: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO SWISHY SARAH!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must take a cold shower or figure out where I can take a hot shower, I must do various and sundried things and I must think very positive thoughts all the livelong day and night. Today’s topic of discussion: Since we had a bout of poetry here at haineshisway.com the other day, who are your favorite poets and what are your favorite poems – feel free to print them for our mental delectation. Let’s have loads of lovely poetical posts, shall we? And no more tumult. Take my tumult, please.
