February 28, 2005:

BROKEN RECORDS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are, the last day of February. The end of February always sneaks up on us because it is a very short month. Tomorrow we will march right into March, a brand spanking new month, and I, for one, look forward to it. I like the sound of March, and it’s much easier to spell than February. Now, I will warn those of you who are reading the notes prior to going to the discussion board (which is always what should be done), you are in for a bit of a shock. I’ll say no more, other than we had a helluva partay here at haineshisway.com. I do believe there was no more popular partay on all the Internet. I wouldn’t skip one post, if I were one of the errant and truant who missed the fun. We had the finest running Oscar commentary anywhere. And, in the process, we broke every record we’ve had on haineshisway.com for daily visits and posts. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, and I hate to sound like a broken record, but we broke every record in the haineshisway.com book. It was an amazingly amazing day and evening and I thank everyone who was here to take part in it. I have had and have been to many Oscar partays in my life, but none were as fun as last night’s. As to the show, well, it was a snoozefest. I don’t know what Mr. Gil Cates thought Mr. Chris Rock was going to bring to the show, but whatever it was Mr. Rock forgot to bring it. He was one of the worst hosts in Oscar history. When they had the brief tribute to Johnny Carson’s Oscar shows, that brief three minutes had more class and big laughs and really showed the depths to which this show has sunk. Mr. Cates should be ashamed of himself for pandering to the youth audience. Mr. Cates should be retired from the Oscar show, if only for his inane decision to put nominees standing onstage together (one of the most idiotic things I’ve ever seen), and having presenters in the audience (ditto). I was happy that Clint won, but otherwise, I really couldn’t have cared less about any of it. My Oscar food consisted of three bagels (two with cream cheese and lox), one cupcake, and buttered popcorn. Today I shall be back on my serious diet, and I hope that yesterday didn’t do any damage. On another note (C#), not only did we break all previous records for visits and posts yesterday, we also achieved our new plateau of over 100,000 posts. Congratulations to one and all and also all and one.

Yesterday, I also finished watching It Happened to Jane, a perfectly nothing comedy with Miss Doris Day and Mr. Jack Lemmon. Doris is very shrill and kind of off-putting in the film. It’s directed by Richard Quine, who got better with his later films. The transfer was quite nice, though.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because this is, after all, the last day of February, so we must wrap up all old business to make way for all new business.

Is there any old business? Besides me, that is. My friend Margaret happily professed that she loved my new pages. She did want some color added, description-wise, to one particular character. She wasn’t articulating what was bothering her, but I just kept talking to her until she could spell it out for me. When she finally did, I saw exactly what she meant, and I went in and added three little things that really hit home what this character was about. It’s so wonderful to have her eyes reading this.

I have quite a few things to do today, so I must not tarry or dally or even dally or tarry. Oh, I forgot to mention that I visited my local Bookstar. They had three copies of Writer’s Block there, and now they are down to one. Someone people in the neighborhood have been buying the book. Hoo and ray.

I’m really looking forward to March. I shall be writing, I shall be traveling to the York of New to do a book signing/reading/party at The Drama Bookshop on the 18th, I shall be seeing our very own PennyO’s show on the 19th, and I shall be meeting up with many hainsies/kimlets. Very exciting.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write, I must attend to some errands that need attending to, I must pick up some packages, and I must eat reasonable foodstuffs. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the single best dessert you’ve ever eaten? The one you have never been able to forget. The one you would do almost anything to have again. Loving details, please. Also, what is your favorite dessert to prepare for company? Loving details, please. I always like to end a month with desserts. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
