THE HOST WITH THE MOST ON THE BALL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s already the end of the week. I must write these here notes in a trice, because I must shortly be on my way to the Bank of Bur to pick up a friend from the airport. Said friend has flown in to attend our release party tomorrow night. There is so much going on today and tomorrow that I can’t even see straight. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I can’t even see straight. Right now, for example, I am seeing crooked. But before I get to all that, can we just talk about yesterday. What a day was yesterday. I got up early and just never stopped doing stuff all the livelong day and night. For example, I shipped a very large order to Footlight Records. For example, I approved the cover of Rewind. For example, we got the Rewind website up and running. For example, I had several important telephonic calls. For example, I went over to Jerry’s Deli and ordered two huge deli platters for Saturday’s partay. For example, I had a dinner meeting regarding our play. We’re trying to get started with the casting of the two male roles, plus I want the rest of the production team hired in the next two weeks. We also have to book a rehearsal space. And, besides all that, I am trying to really start figuring out stuff for the upcoming LACC benefit. I am struggling with an original opening number – I know the idea of it is great, and I like the music, but the lyric is coming very slowly and I’ve just set up a very difficult meter for the song, and I have to say a lot of things in very short phrases. It’s actually beginning to drive me crazy, which I think we all know is a very short drive, especially these days. Yesterday also brought some sad news – my ex-manager, Miss Pat McQueeney, passed away on Wednesday. She was my manager for about seven years, and she was a wonderful woman. At one time, she had a spectacular roster of clients – Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, MacKenzie Phillips, Harrison Ford, Lee Purcell, Charlie Martin Smith, me, and a handful of others. In the early eighties, she let us all go when she decided to only handle Harrison, which was a smart move on her part, as painful as it was for all of us. She was intelligent and funny and very supportive. I hadn’t seen her in over twenty years, but I thought about her from time to time, and Cindy and Candy kept in touch with her pretty regularly, so I heard reports from them. In any case, those years with her were wonderful, and I hope she’s resting in peace.

Last night, I watched no motion pictures on DVD, although I did pick up the new Universal Hammer set, the Bela Lugosi set, and Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. I probably won’t get to anything until Sunday, as my friend will be here until then and I must play the host, oh, yes, I must play the host. In fact, I shall be the host with the most on the ball.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because I must soon be on my way to the Burbank Airport.

Oy and vey, what days I’ve got today and tomorrow. Get a load of this: I have to pick up my friend and be the host with the most on the ball. I have to ship out about ten count them ten orders. I must do many errands, and then I must take my friend out to dine. Tomorrow, I may try to attend the book fair first thing in the morning. Then at one, I must attend a reunion of my sixth grade class. I have mixed feelings about going, but go I shall, and I hope to drag my friend along with me, so we can beat a hasty retreat whenever I feel the need. Then, I have to be at Jerry’s Deli at four to pick up the platters, then I must get drinks, then I must be at Los Angeles City College at five to set up for the party. The party begins at seven and will go to at least ten. I shall, of course, have a full report on all these events. Then my friend leaves early Sunday morning and I will no longer have to be the host with the most on the ball.

I’ll just give you some interesting advance news: Mr. Kevin Spirtas will be performing his one-man show that I directed, in October, most likely on the main stage of the El Portal Theater. It will be a benefit for victims of Katrina. We’ll be recording the show live, and we’ll also be videotaping it. I’ll have more details for you as we get closer to the event.

The Rewind site is up and running and books can now be preordered (www.rewindbook.com). The first fifty preorders will receive a little sparkling surprise with their books, so do not dally or tarry or tarry or dally.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must go, go, go (that is three gos), I must do, do, do (the coprophiliac’s favorite Gershwin song), and somewhere I must find a moment or three to finish my short story – I’m just a few paragraphs away from completion. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the new Varese Soundtrack Club titles – Georges Delerue’s True Confessions, and Bill Conti’s Fist and Slow Dancing In The Big City (the latter one of Conti’s most beautiful creations). DVD, next up is Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I prepare to be the host with the most on the ball.
