CHICKEN TENDERS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we are but two days away from my first performance in the play. And may I just say oy and vey. Yesterday’s go-throughs went well, with only a few hiccups, and the final time we did it, I basically got it all. But I’m still in that weird place where I “think” I’m going to forget everything. That’s what I’ve got to get past – I have to be just a bit more secure and comfortable with it. The problem is that I don’t know if we’re going to have time to run it today, because today we’re taping the two video segments and then Matt has to leave. I’m hoping we can at least do a couple of line-throughs while they’re setting up the shots and the teleprompter. Thursday we’ll go through it at least three times on the set, and then Friday afternoon we’ll probably run it at my house in the afternoon. I’m praying that by then it will be firmly ensconced in my head, where I’m not always worrying about what comes next. The three speeches I was most concerned about seem to be settling in and I get through them pretty well now, so that’s good. So, save up all your excellent vibes and xylophones for Friday and Saturday night’s performances. Yesterday, we also had a very good musical theater workshop (MTW) class – several students really did well. This time I gave notes and had them do it again immediately, and the difference was quite astonishing. Next week, we start duets. After rehearsal, I went shopping for my wardrobe for the play, and found perfect stuff – it was as if each item of clothing were waiting for me. I also bought some new pants. And that was my day.

Last night, I managed to watch one count them one motion picture on DVD, entitled Sliver. I remembered it as being quite bad, but I decided to give it a whirl. I shouldn’t have. It’s one of the biggest wastes of celluloid I’ve ever seen in my life. The Ira Levin novel was fun, but the movie is anything but, and the reason for it is simple and can be summed up in two simple words: Joe Esterhasz. If there has ever been a worse major screenwriter, I’ve yet to encounter him/her. The two leading men are two of the most unappealing actors ever – William Baldwin and Tom Berenger. The leading lady is Sharon Stone. None of them have a chance, of course, given the low quality of the script. There’s lots of nudity and pseudo-sex posturing, and you couldn’t ask for three more narcissistic actors – the only saving grace of the film are the brief appearances by Nina Foch and Keene Curtis. Even the score by Howard Shore is terrible. The transfer looks good but is in the wrong aspect ratio – a rarity for Paramount. It should be scope (2:35) but this transfer is more like 1:90 or 2:0. This is the “unrated” version, so there’s more thrusting, not that any of the thrusting is interesting. Note to Joe Esterhasz: Ira Levin doesn’t need your “help.”

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep so that I can appear young and vibrant for today’s video shoot.

We should be through with the video shoot by three, but I’m hoping maybe by two-thirty, so Matt and I can run our stuff once or twice before he has to leave. After that, I am going to sit on my couch like so much fish because I’ll definitely need to relaz. Not only will I need to relaz, but I’ll also need to relax. I always feel it is best to relaz then relax, don’t you?

I’m hoping to snag a copy of the Capote DVD later today, for tonight’s viewing. We’ll see if that happens. Whatever I snag, I will not do anything this evening other than watch DVDs and relaz. I’ll also relax. And eat. I’ve been on a chicken tenders kick. Each day, I go to Gelson’s and buy some chicken tenders and then I kick them from here to eternity and hell and back. It’s ever so much fun.

Of course, tomorrow is yet another musical theater workshop, but it will be an easy day – the pianist will be putting on tape all the duets the people have chosen. Perhaps after that I’ll kick some chicken tenders.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, look young and sprightly, I must shoot a video, I must take a photograph with Miss Tammy Minoff – she in a bikini, and I in khaki shorts and no shirt. I must both relaz and relax and then I must kick some chicken tenders. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like, and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, and loads of lovely posts, shall we?
