RED LICORICE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am getting quite a late start on these here notes, and on top of that I must be up at seven if I’m to jog before leaving the home environment, so I must hurry up and write these here notes or there will be hell toupee. During the writing of these here notes I shall be eating some red licorice, which will hopefully inform the notes and make the notes sweet and chewy and also chewy and sweet. So, let’s get right to yesterday. Yesterday, I got up. That’s always a good thing to do in the morning. I then jogged, and then put the finishing touches on the latest songs for PennyO’s show. PennyO herself arrived, heard the two songs, liked the two songs, and we had a nice visit. I then went to see if my box of Nudie Musical DVDs had shown up and happily they had. I prepared my two boxes o’ stuff to bring to the show (all five novels, Nudie and Naked Space DVDs, and Deceit DVDs, along with my photos), so all that was done and ready to go. I then shaved and showered and toddled off to LACC. The theater looked really great, a real cabaret feel to it. We did a sound check a light check and then we waited for the folks to start arriving – and arrive they did. The show was basically sold out (only about six empty seats that I could see) and the crowd bought lots of food and drink, which was really great for us. I must say, I don’t think we could have asked for a better beginning to the cabaret series. I introduced the show, and then Susan Egan came on and did her usual great job. The songs were fun, the patter was fun, and the crowd ate her up. It was a nice long show, too. The audience seemed very happy and we’re hoping that they’ll come back to see the rest of the shows. I still have some issues with the space – the sound isn’t to my liking yet, and we need to do more with the lighting, but everything really did go very smoothly and we were all very pleased. The good news is that tonight’s show is also basically sold out. In attendance last night were What If’s Paul Haber (nice to see him again) and Alet Taylor, Cabaret West’s Les Traub, the irrepressible Skip E. Lowe and friend, and lots of other good folks. All in all, it was a splendidly splendid evening and a successful launch to the series.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am almost through with my red licorice and I’m trying to make it last all the way through the notes.

This morning I shall be on my way bright and early to the Hollywood Collector’s Showcase where I shall sit all the livelong day and hopefully sell some of my various and sundried products. Directly after the show I must go to LACC to work on the sound and lighting for this evening’s performance. I will, of course, have a complete report on the Hollywood Collector’s Show and I’m bringing along my camera.

All right, it’s time for this week’s Unseemly Trivia Contest, which I’ve whipped together quickly.

This epic play had a healthy run on Broadway. It was written by a playwright who, ten years later, would have a big hit play which would be followed by another big hit play, both of which were turned into films. In the cast was an actor who was about to have his biggest success in an incredibly successful motion picture. Also in the cast was an actor who would go on to be a character actor in a number of films, including a terrific role in a late film by one of the most well known directors in the world. Also in the cast was an actor who would go on to star in a successful TV series. Also in the cast was a strange character actor who’d had a role in a well-known fantasy film some years earlier, a film in which the character said actor played did a particularly nasty thing, a heinous thing to something particularly lovable. So:

Name the play, the author, and the authors two big hit plays that followed.

Name the actor who was about to have his biggest success in an incredibly successful motion picture.

Name the actor who would go on to be a terrific character actor, and name the film in which he appeared that was directed by one of the most well known directors in the world.

Name the actor who would go on to star in a successful TV series, and name the series.

Name the strange character actor, name the fantasy film said actor appeared in, and name the particularly nasty thing that said actor did to something particularly lovable.

Remember – DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS TO THE SITE. Send them to me at bruce@haineshisway.com. You have until midnight on Monday to submit your answers. Good luck to one and all and also all and one.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a really early jog, I must do the Hollywood Collector’s Show, and I must attend Miss Susan Egan’s second performance. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite performances of your favorite songs? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I eat the last piece of red licorice and get ready to sign a plethora of things.
