August 4, 2006:

THE FRIDAY THAT SEEMED LIKE SATURDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must now write these here notes in a hurry because it is late, late, late (that is three lates – or, a triple late in Starbuck’s lingo). So, let me cut to the chase and get right to yesterday. It is very important to get to yesterday before discussing today because that has become the way these here notes work. So, yesterday I had a day. I woke up early, went back to sleep, and woke up late. I jogged my extra long jog and then got ready for my meeting. The meeting was good, and I agreed to sign on to direct and help develop a show for kids – a rock-and-roll concert for three to ten-year-olds. It will be a full show with music, dancing, and comedy. I’m quite excited about it. We’ll be doing a major workshop for three performances early next year. We’re going to start casting in the next few weeks. After that, I came home, finished the final song (done three times with different lyrics) for PennyO’s show, made some notes for my new play (for which I have to come up with a title next week), and then toddled off to LACC for our sound check.

Kevin Spirtas’ show was completely sold out, with thirty extra seats put in to accommodate the overflow. It was a fun crowd – in attendance was ASCAP’S Michael Kerker, composer Adryan Russ, the Kritzerland designer, Doug Haverty, manager Scott Stander and his ever-lovin’ Rita McKenzie, ace pianist Ron Abel, songwriter/performer Kirby Tepper (who wrote Kevin’s hilarious Days Of Our Lives number), Miss Stella Stevens, What If’s Paul Haber, our very own Miss Adriana Patti and, of course, our table-full of hainsies/kimlets, including dear readers Laura and Sandra, dear reader Kerry, and the much-missed and wonderful dear reader MusicGuy, along with new dear reader Jeanne. Also on view, our very own Miss Barbara Deutsch and her pal Allison, Cabaret West’s Les Traub, Buddy Bregman, and many others. It was a mostly good show – not having done the show in almost a year it took a while for Kevin to settle in, especially playing a space that was very different from the El Portal. But, by act two all was well and the audience really enjoyed everything. I’m a stickler for consistency, and certain numbers, for me, were a bit off, but that’s just my perfectionism. In any case, it was a splendidly splendid evening. Afterwards, the hainsies/kimlets contingent toddled over to House of Pies where we all stuffed ourselves silly. I hadn’t eaten all day, so I probably overdid it, but I was really hungry and I figured I jogged the extra distance so I could eat what I want. I had a dinner salad, a BLTA, and a few onion rings. And, of course, coconut cream pie, which was quite yummilicious, I must say.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the time is flying by like a gazelle in a girdle.

A Gazelle In A Girdle – that’s the title of my next novel (and what a novel it will be). I’m very confused right now, day-wise. Since our cabaret shows have been on Friday and Saturday nights, today feels like Saturday even though it is Friday. I don’t know if I’m coming or going, frankly, or even if I’m going or coming.

Today, I must buckle down Winsocki and get some writing done. I have a potential meeting to attend, and then a sound check for Mr. Jason Graae’s show, which I’ll also be taking part in (in the opening number, along with the splendidly splendid Susanne Blakeslee). Hopefully, we’ll have enough time to rehearse it a few times.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, write, do errands, perhaps attend a meeting, and then I must attend Jason Graae’s show, after which the hainsies/kimlets contingent will be toddling off to Genghis Cohen for a fine Chinese repast. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD player? I’ll start – CD, the soundtrack to the Eyetalian horror film I Vampiri. DVD, nothing lined up yet, but probably some more Staccato episodes. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings shall we, whilst I try to get my beauty rest and attempt not to be confused by which day it is.
