HOLY MOLEY ON RYE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it seems that all the brouhaha has died down and that I have indeed taken over alumni association. This very evening I shall begin the process of completely restructuring the organization from head to toe, starting with putting together a new governing board and advisory committee. I have a lunch meeting on Thursday with the head of the Theatre Academy so that we can set up an appointment to meet with the president of the college (who is a very nice fellow) and the LACC foundation, just to make sure we do everything according to Hoyle. I’m very excited by the prospect of doing some interesting things, including a major fundraising show, hopefully in October, and a series of workshops, seminars, and master classes, all open to current students, alums, and anyone else who wants to attend. While I do have a lot on my plate right now, this sort of thing creates positive things if done correctly and therefore, being a positive person, I’m happy to add this to the plate. Speaking of the plate, yesterday was a day in which I had certain things I wanted to get done and I got them done. For example, I got up. That was something I wanted to do and got done. Then I wrote a page after cleaning up yesterday’s pages. I don’t know why it took so long, but it was sort of annoying, so I went out for a little while, and when I came back I wrote two more pages, this time much more quickly. I took a little break, and then wrote four more pages, for a total of seven. I then ate some food, and then, later, wrote another page-and-a-half, for a grand total of Fellini’s 8 ½. I think that’s a record number of pages for this book, topping a couple of eight page days. After all that, I simply had to sit on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I managed to watch three count them three motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture on DVD was entitled Cat and Mouse, another slight but thoroughly charming and entertaining film from Mr. Claude Lelouch. It’s sort of a mystery, but it’s more just a collection of wonderful scenes – eventually the mystery, which is convoluted, is solved, and then there are a couple more scenes and then the film doesn’t end – it just stops. The cast is fantastic, with wonderful performances by Michele Morgan, Serge Regianni, and Jean-Pierre Aumont. There has never been another filmmaker quite like Mr. Lelouch and even his lesser films are entertaining and certainly better than what they make today. The transfer (a DVD from Germany) was very good. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD, which was entitled Happy Feet. I think I’d read some very nice comments on this here site, and the film won the Oscar for best animated feature. I’m sorry to say that I didn’t much take to it – I found it endless, with a lot of unnecessary repetition. It certainly was beautifully animated and designed and voiced but it was just too long (remember when animated films were under seventy minutes – this one runs 108 – Cars ran even longer). The stories cannot support that sort of running time. And, the truth is, I found Cars more entertaining, even though I felt that film was Pixar’s worst. I then watched the third motion picture on DVD, which was a documentary entitled Jonestown. It was a riveting ninety minutes, with some great footage, and obviously the last thirty minutes was powerful and shocking. The film just presents the story and doesn’t comment on it, which is the sort of documentary I like. It’s very well done.

What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because today is going to be a day and I have to get my beauty sleep to be ready for it.

Today, as I may have already mentioned, is going to be a day. I have to get up early and get some packages ready for shipping. I then have to attempt to write at least three pages before my 11:30 work session with Miss Alet Taylor. That will go to 1:30 and then I have to routine two numbers for Merissa Haddad’s show. We have forty-five minutes to do that, and then Merissa and I have to hie ourselves to a rehearsal room in North Hollywood to begin staging her show. That will go from 3:00 to 5:00, and then I have a meeting with the person who’ll be serving as vice-president of the alumni association, and we’re going to begin making plans for the things we want to happen over the next couple of months. After that, I shall finally come home, and I’ll try to do a little more writing. I think I’m down to what will be the final three chapters of the book, although one never knows.

Tomorrow, I have a lunch, and then a little time to myself in the afternoon, and then an evening rehearsal. I also have rehearsals on Friday and Saturday, as well.

I haven’t come up with one line in these here notes that I can use for the title of these here notes. Can you imagine? Here it is, one minute to midnight and the pressure is on. Holy moley on rye, we need a title. Perhaps I’ll just call the notes Holy Moley On Rye and be done with it. Saved in the nick of time.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, package up some orders, write, ship, have a work session, have a rehearsal, and have a meeting. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all shout the title of today’s notes: Holy Moley On Rye!
