April 2, 2007:

THE THROES OF APRIL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we are already in the throes of April. Not in the throws of April, mind you, no, we are in the throes of April. We are also celebrating the Jewish holiday of Passover, or Pesach, as we Jews like to call it. Of course, I celebrated it yesterday because I was invited to an early Passover seder. In any case, we are in the throes and also the throws of April. How can it already be April 2nd? Why it seems as though April 1st was only yesterday. Of course, April 1st was only yesterday so that could explain that. That always explains that – who should that explain? This? You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about, do drop us a PM. Speaking of a PM, yesterday was a very full day. For example, I woke up (in the AM). I then sat down at Ye Olde Computer and wrote a page. I then did some other things, and then I wrote four more pages. I then toddled off to a local shoe store where I bought a new pair of local shoes. I bought my usual size and didn’t bother trying them on. When I got the local shoes home and tried them on there were huge, even though my other pair, which fit perfectly, was the same exact size. I had to go back to the local shoe store, where I tried on two more pair of local shoes that were my size and the same thing happened – huge. I then tried on a pair that was a half-size smaller and they fit perfectly. Go know. After that, I toddled off to the Passover dinner being held at Miss Joan Ryan’s. I was told seder began at two o’clock. I arrived slightly thereafter to find a house filled with a lot of people. I was introduced to everyone. It became instantly apparent that seder wasn’t beginning at two or even two-thirty. Our friend, Miss Barbara Deutsch, arrived at three-fifteen. Seder still hadn’t begun. We sat together and had fun, wondering if the seder was ever going to begin. It finally did – at four-thirty. We went through the story of Passover – not the entire sixty pages, but about half that. So, we didn’t actually begin eating food until five-thirty. The food, however, was excellent. I had brisket, one slice of turkey, green beans, asparagus, and a delicious carrot soufflĂ©. We all stuffed ourselves silly, and then I finally toddled back to the home environment about seven. Upon my return, I got the rest of the research details I’d been waiting for, and I added about two-and-a-half pages to an earlier chapter – I still have to add another page or two, which I’ll do this morning before I go back to the current chapter. As I am now in the final section of the book, I am furiously making notes on every piece of paper, as the fancy strikes me. I get ideas everywhere now, and I have paper everywhere, just in case.

Last night, I did manage to watch a motion picture on DVD entitled Infernal Affairs III, the sequel to Infernal Affairs, and Infernal Affairs II. I enjoyed a lot of it, but it is so hard to follow sometimes that you just want to throw your shoe at the TV. Because one of the characters is having a breakdown, you’re never quite sure of what you’re seeing, and there are flashbacks aplenty to keep track of and it just gets very confusing. And then, the film has about eight endings in a row. The acting is excellent and, as I said, it’s enjoyable, but one wishes it were a little cleaner and clearer like the first film.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because soon we’ll be in the throes of the next section.

Today, I have the day to write as much as I can, and also do some work on the final medley for Miss Merissa Haddad, and also a medley for Miss Joan Ryan. And this evening is reserved to watch at least two motion pictures on DVD. But, mostly I hope to finish adding the details from the research, and then moving on and maybe even finishing the chapter I’m on.

Tomorrow night, I’ll be working with Miss Haddad and it will be our final work session with Mr. John Boswell, who’ll then prepare the music for the pianist who’ll actually play the show. Later in the week, I’ll be working with Mr. Boswell and Alet, and Mr. Boswell and Miss Ryan. And Miss Haddad and I begin rehearsing the show regularly. She’s less than two weeks away now, and we’ve got quite a bit of work to do. I’ve asked her to be letter perfect by our first rehearsal. I’ll also be having meetings to begin the restructuring of the alumni association, which I am now the President of. I’ll be choosing a new governing board and an advisory committee over the next few weeks, but there is a lot of stuff to iron out before that happens.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, write, do an errand or three, write, write, and then write. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite chocolates? Individual pieces (nuts, chews, fillings), chocolate bars – anything chocolate, we want to hear about it in loving detail. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we continue to be in the throes of April.
