Well, dear readers, it’s Friday, then end of yet another week that has flown by like a gazelle doing The Music Man. But enough about me. WE ARE NOT HALFWAY THROUGH JUNE. NOW HOLD ON THERE JUST A MINUTE, PARDNER. WHAT IN TARNATION AM I SHOUTING ABOUT. OOPS (SPOO, SPELLED BACKWARDS), I INADVERTENTLY HIT THE CAPS LOCK BUTTON AND NOW WE HAVE A FINE KETTLE OF WHAT IS IT FISH. There, much better. If you can inadvertently do something can you also advertently do something or even vertently do something? But enough about me. Speaking of me, yesterday was a day that contained hours, minutes, and seconds, not necessarily in that order. I got up, that I remember. Then I had to answer some e-mails and do some whatnot. I then had to toddle off to my designer’s home environment, where we discussed matters that needed discussing and then I had to toddle off to a meeting with the LACC Foundation president, to discuss his benefit show and ours. I’m helping him out with his, and in return, he will help publicize ours and help us get sponsors, and give us the big, huge mailing list. I then had a little chat with the head of the theatre department about several issues, including our upcoming general meeting for the alumni association, which will be in their big theater. After that, I got on the freeway and braved the traffic and came home. I got some chow and said ciao to any further work, save for answering some e-mails. And, I was happy to confirm our latest cast addition for our fundraiser show – Mr. Ken Page. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled The Family Way, starring Miss Hayley Mills, Mr. Hywell Bennett, Mr. John Mills, and Miss Marjorie Rhodes. The film is based on a play called All In Good Time by Bill Naughton, which had a moderate run in the UK and was a flop in its Broadway incarnation. The film version was directed by Mr. Roy Boulting, and it is on this film that he and Miss Mills fell in love (Miss Mills being thirty-three years his junior). I have always thought this a terrific movie – I saw it several times during its original release, and I owned a region 2 DVD, which was, unfortunately, full frame. Last week, a new region 2 DVD came out, this one anamorphically enhanced for widescreen TVs with the film in its proper 1:66 ratio. Miss Mills is so simple and wonderful and lovely in this film (she also has a small nude scene, which is actually charming), and Hywell Bennett made an impressive debut. This is my favorite John Mills performance – he’s superb as Mr. Bennett’s dad, all bluster and beer-drinking, but with real pain and heart buried deeply underneath it all. He also has a wonderful recurring line that goes, “He walked through here like it were a public convenience,” that just gets funnier and funnier each time he says it. But the film belongs to Miss Rhodes. I believe I’ve written about the film when I got and viewed the first DVD, but I can’t say it enough – Miss Rhodes’ performance is a wonder, and she’s funny and real and incredibly moving (she was in the play both in the UK and Broadway). The wonderful score is by Mr. Paul McCartney (and arranged by Mr. George Martin). I wish I could say that the transfer was perfect – it’s very sharp and in very good shape, but it’s too brown, almost sepia, and the film didn’t look that way. I would just love to keep whispering into the telecine operator’s ear – blue is your friend.

This morning I’ll be having a long meeting with Miss Susan Egan, doing a road map of what takes we’re using from what show for her new live CD. After that, I have a ton of errands and whatnot to do, and then I’m supposed to go to what they call a “rent party” – a friend is trying to raise money for his show. I doubt I’ll be going, since I donated several meetings and gave a lot of advice – that’s my contribution, I should think.
Tomorrow, I shall be packing up CDs and trying to get them shipped out, as well as relaxing and girding my loins for a busy upcoming week.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, meet, drive about in my motor car, do errands and whatnot, not attend a party, and perhaps even have a nice, quiet dinner along with a motion picture on DVD. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently playing in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the new Kritzerland release, along with a whole slew of home-made CDRs. DVD, haven’t made any decisions, but have a French film called The Moustache (I think) that I probably will watch. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? But enough about me.
