COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, since I only slept about three hours I am very tired and therefore these here notes will have to be short and sweet, which is, I suppose, better than being long and sour. I must say, I am very predictable when I have a throat that feels weird – I simply cannot sleep. I tossed and turned and when that got old I turned and tossed. I got up and wrote down some things I thought of in the middle of the night. I counted my blessings instead of sheep and then I counted my blessings AND the sheep and then I counted my blessings, the sheep, and three aardvarks. Nothing helped – I just lay there like so much fish. And I think when I did sleep I dreamt I was awake counting my blessings, the sheep, several aardvarks and a llama. Hopefully, tonight I will sleep through the night. My throat doesn’t feel quite as weird as last night. I may even take some NyQuil, although I really don’t want to. I finally got out of bed around eight-thirty. I knew pretty quickly that I wasn’t up to doing the long jog, as much as I wanted to. So, I answered some e-mails, then did a little adjusting of what I wrote yesterday, then began writing new pages. I did three pretty quickly, then had to deal with one interesting e-mail and one slightly annoying e-mail. Then I wrote two more pages. I was then hungry so I went and got a Subway turkey sandwich, and picked up a couple of insignificant packages. I came home and ate the sandwich all up, along with a few mini-biscottis. I then adjusted what I’d written in the morning, had a couple of longish telephonic calls, and then the day was done. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched two count them two episodes of Mannix. They were both quite good. The first had interesting guest stars such as Susan Oliver, James Olson, Paul Winfield, Nan Martin, and Timothy Carey, and the second had a wonderful performance by Robert Hooks. It’s very amusing to see how many ways they can re-dress the same on the lot locations week after week. There was one incredible night shot on Hollywood Boulevard circa 1969 – I live for those location shots when I watch these shows. I also listened to a whole slew of CDs by my favorite of the contemporary film music composers, Philippe Rombi, Joe Hisaishi, Frederic Talgorn, and Alexandre Desplat. I also listened to a rather amazing 2 CD set of Joni Mitchell redoing songs from past albums, this time with full orchestra and incredible orchestrations by Vince Mendoza. A spectacular album in every way. It’s called Travelogue and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I got quite hungry around nine, so I stopped by Gelson’s and got a little container of crab salad, which is very light and not bad at all. It hit the spot. It is always hitting the spot and frankly the spot has had it with it.

I then wrote another three pages, and then began these here notes. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below before I completely nod off and begin to count my blessings, the sheep, the aardvarks, the llama, and the partridge in the pear tree.

Today, if it is at all possible I shall do the long jog. Other than that, I’ll relax, write, do errands and whatnot, and hope for good things to happen to all of us.

Tomorrow, I’ll have to do the long jog quite early and get all my writing done by noon, for I then have a four-hour work session to attend, first with the composer and lyricist of the long musical, and that will be followed by the author’s arrival. I’m sure it will be interesting in any number of ways. I have received several e-mails telling me how much they liked my notes, so that’s good.

I should also be seeing a rough cut of the Kevin and Sean show, which I’m very much looking forward to. This weekend I’ll be working with Sean on his solo show – we’re just preparing a thrown together act for him to do in early February, then we’ll start in earnest on the real act.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (if I’m feeling up to it), write, do errands, and eat something amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I go to the bedroom environment and count my blessings, the sheep, the aardvarks, the llama, the partridge in the pear tree, and, lest we forget, the cows.
