APT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have exactly four minutes to write these here notes if they are to be posted at midnight. Hence, they will not be posted at midnight, since I now have three minutes and I haven’t even finished the second sentence. As I write this, the theme from It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is playing. How apt. Apt. What idiot made up the word apt? Just look it. Three letters having absolutely nothing to do with each other, just thrown together and someone called it a word and gave it a meaning. How apt. I now have one minute to write these here notes if they are to be posted at midnight. It is, of course, a mad world. Yesterday, for example, I got up early and was paid a visit by the Digital Men, who removed my six-year-old TIVO machine and replaced it with a brand spanking new Digital Video Recorder of the Hi-Def kind. It took them about an hour to replace the old dish with new dish. While they were doing so, I worked on the computer. Finally, they called me in – they hooked up the new machine through the receiver via HDMI and voila, I had hi-def on my TV screen. The Price Is Right was the first show we tuned to – not that I’d ever watch it, but it did look mighty fine. After they left, I called DirecTV and ordered the hi-def movie channels for four dollars extra a month, which I thought a good deal. I then learned the new remote, picked some upcoming hi-def programming to record into my hi-def machine and we’ll see how it all goes, hi-def recording-wise. After that, I did a two-mile jog, then had to do some errands, after which I picked up one measly package, but two nice envelopes. I then had some Pasta Papa at Hugo’s, and then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first half of The Ninth Gate, a film of Roman Polanski, starring Johnny Depp. I’ll have more to say about film and presentation after I finish it tonight. I’ve also been watching the Blu and Ray of Planet Earth every night and what an amazing show and disc it is. In fact, it’s spectacular, and not only is it fascinating and beautifully shot, but the score by George Benton takes the entire thing to a whole other level (level, spelled backwards). I’ve finished the first three episodes – the only thing that’s hard to watch are the poor cute animals that get eaten by larger not-so-cute animals. But, that’s survival and life (or non-life, depending on which animal you are).
I also listened to a lot of CDs, some of which are potential upcoming projects for us, stuff I’ve already had transferred. One such title will require a lot of editing work, but I think it’s such a cute score and it’s by one of my favorite unsung composers of the Silver Age, so I’ve decided we’re definitely doing it. I’ve put it all in “cue” order, and it pretty much will play that way – I’ll be editing some of the shorter tracks together and I think it will be fun. The composer has already agreed to do an interview for the Kritzerland site.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because these here notes are already eleven minutes late.

Ah, part two – how apt (tpa, spelled backwards). Today, I’ll be getting up very early to do the long jog, then I’ll have a two-hour work session with the composer and lyricist of the long musical, then the rest of the day will be mine all mine. I will start writing the liner notes (in fact, I have to have the entire package for our upcoming release finished by Sunday), then I will do some errands and whatnot, and that will be that.

I think the weekend is pretty open and I think I’ll try to keep it that way. I may go out and see a film, or do something fun. And I will find something light but amusing to eat.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, have a long work session, do errands and whatnot, and eat something amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a couple of Gato Barbieri CDs, plus the upcoming Kritzerland projects, including a cast album reissue I’m happy to have just gotten. DVD (Blu-Ray), the rest of The Ninth Gate, then Grumpy Old Men, more Heroes, and Ghostbusters. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and please make them apt.
