HELLO, AUGUST!

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, may I just say that it’s August and may I just say that I find that so astonishing that it boggles my already boggled mind. I thought last year went quickly, but last year doesn’t hold a candle to this year in that regard. So, let’s welcome August with open arms and send all excellent vibes and xylophones for all of us to have a safe, healthy, fun, and prosperous August, with an emphasis on the latter. Funnily, I had to get something that was quite high up in the garage and had an emphasis on the ladder. We don’t allow groaning here at haineshisway.com. As I write this, I am stuffed to the gills with appetizers – I ate nothing but appetizers yesterday, with no conventional meal. For lunch, I had some popcorn chicken, some guacamole and chips, and some wings. Then, much later, I split some nachos at Hamburger Hamlet. I feel rather nauseous right now, but hopefully the feeling will pass. I must say, the last day of July was incredibly busy and somewhat fun. I actually slept until eight-thirty, and I think the hammering and yammering might finally be coming to an end as they work more on the interior of the house. I then did the two-mile jog (all I can stand in this heat), then made the decision that our next Kritzerland release would become a 2 CD set (but the price remains $19.98, a bargain). That was a big decision, but one I finally felt comfortable making after canvassing my two big online dealers. I had to return tapes to the vault, and then I typed up all the track titles and wrote the first two-thirds of the liner notes (I had to stop because I’ll be watching the second of the two films represented in the set directly after finishing the notes, so I’ll then be able to write about it). That took quite a while, then I went and had the appetizer lunch, then came home and watched the first episode of Lost, Season Three. It was interesting that J.J. Abrams finally came back and did something for his show, co-writing the script for episode one. It began very interestingly and while I didn’t find it one of the best episodes of the series, some of it was quite compelling, and we have a couple of new characters to find out about. I’ll probably watch most of season three over the weekend.

After that, I had to go to Mr. Grant Geissman’s to enter the final fixes in the book. That took about two and a half hours, but we were interrupted several times whilst Grant had to kill a fly – some idiot fly obviously got into his studio and laid some eggs, because every time he’d kill one fly, another would appear out of nowhere. I told him to call an exterminator. I’ll be doing one more pass through the fully corrected version over the weekend, and then it’s going off to the publishers. After that, we went to the Hamlet and had our nachos. All in all, a very long and very nice day.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because she of the Evil Eye will be here both bright and early and early and bright, and I must get my beauty sleep, which will not occur until I finish the movie I have to watch (which is thankfully pretty short).

Today, I shall do a bunch of errands and whatnot, and then I’ll have to finish the liner notes. I plan to watch Repulsion and I think I’ll make something I’ve been craving – pasta with butter and cheese. And, I plan to do the long jog today. I think I’ve gained about three or four pounds in the last two weeks, and my deal is if that happens then they come right off, no matter what. I’m stopping all sweets and stopping all fried foods for the next two weeks as of this very day. The museum is showing Lolita this evening, and I may trek over there to see it – I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it on the big screen with an audience.

Tomorrow, I’ll take one more tour of the new book, write the flap copy, and get this puppy to bed and off where it needs to go. We should have books in about eight weeks, I’m hoping. I also have to read the new draft of the long musical.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, do errands and whatnot, ship a few packages, finish liner notes, do a final proofing of the book, read a long musical, and whatever else needs doing. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite appetizers? What is the first appetizer you remember eating? What was the most exotic? Which do you loathe? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we say Hello, August! and hope for a happy, fun, healthy, and prosperous month for one and all and also all and one.
