Well, dear readers, tomorrow is going to be a big day around these here parts, so you will definitely want to drop by and join in the merriment and mirth and laughter and legs. You will want to partake of the festivities and the cheese slices and the ham chunks. And for those who lurk, you may even want to come out of the woodwork and make a post, especially if your name is Emily. We haven’t had an Emily post in quite some time. That is all I’ll say for now, but tomorrow will be a really fun haineshisway.com day and evening – mark my words.
As for yesterday, I actually had close to a day off – I did have a little work to do and some shipping to do, but I did it and was done with it before I toddled off to lunch with dear reader Jeanne. We went to the Sunset Blvd. Hamburger Hamlet, where we had a lovelier than lovely luncheon in an almost completely deserted restaurant. After that, I came directly home where I directly sat on my couch like so much fish and dozed off about fourteen times. I then watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Wings Of Desire, a film by Wim Wenders. I’d always wanted to see it but somehow never got around to it. Well, it’s a wonderful, magical, heartfelt and completely unique film, beautifully shot by Henri Alekan (he was eighty at the time – he photographed one of the most beautiful films ever made – Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast) in both black-and-white and color. There’s really only a hint of a story, in which two angels walk around Berlin listening to the thoughts of people and making note of them. One of the angels wants to defect and become human. That’s the essence of it. There are a lot of inner monologues that are quite touching, and it’s just a beautiful visual experience. Peter Falk is even on hand – playing Peter Falk, who just happens to be an ex-angel – he’s clearly having a good time and he’s really wonderful. The Blu-Ray transfer is impeccable – with luminous black-and-white images, and then perfect color sequences. While I wouldn’t go so far as to claim it a masterpiece, I would go so far as to say it’s a fantastic piece of pure cinema, and a beautiful, poetic drama. Highly recommended by the likes of me.
After the movie, I watched most of the 2003 documentary on the film, which was interesting. Then, I wasn’t in the mood to watch anything else, so I just played on the computer and took a couple of telephonic calls, and our very own Mr. Donald Feltham stopped by to pick up a copy of the Brent Barrett CD. I took a nice, hot shower and then somehow it was already time to write these here notes. All in all it was a perfectly pleasant day, although one with no packages.
Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m still quite overtired and ornery and I just need a really good night’s sleep, which I certainly hope to get.
Have I mentioned that we’re having a big to-do tomorrow? Be there or be round, that’s all I have to say.
As to today, well, I’m doing the long jog (I really have to try and do it every day this week), and then I’m having the rest of the day and evening to myself. We do have a singer rehearsal at six-thirty, but I see no real reason to be there to watch people learning songs. So, I’ll have a leisurely day filled with leisurely things – in fact, perhaps I’ll even don my leisure suit, just to complete the picture. I shall watch some motion pictures, I shall eat something amusing (and I must try and either cook or go somewhere other than Hugo’s, Jerry’s, or The Studio CafĂ©), watch the season finale of Mad Men, and then do whatever strikes my fancy. Of course, if whatever strikes my fancy my fancy will strike whatever right back – do NOT mess around with my fancy, that’s all I can tell you.
Tomorrow, as noted, we are having a big to-do and you won’t want to miss one second of it. It’s a big day for haineshisway.com and I’m hoping it will be a lot of fun for one and all and also all and one. I also have tons of errands and whatnot to do.
Tuesday night we do our table reading, Wednesday morning we have a post mortem, Wednesday afternoon I transfer tapes for an upcoming release, Thursday I have a business lunch and either Thursday or Friday I have to make a long drive to have Ken Thorne sign the Inspector Clouseau booklets, and then Friday night I attend the opening of Baby, It’s You at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, and then I must do only things I wish to do. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we make ready for the big to-do.
