ALL HAIL THE HAIL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday really took the cake and now there is no more cake because that slobbering pig yesterday took it and ate it all up. But seriously, I’ll tell you why yesterday took the cake because why should I keep such things from you dear readers? Yesterday took the cake because here in the land of sunshine and blue skies we not only had horrendous, torrential downpours, no, we not only had horrendous, torrential downpours we also had hail. Can you believe it? Hail. Outside it was hailing and there was suddenly there was white snow on my patio – it was unbelievable. Other than that, it was a pleasantly pleasant day. I got up, I did some things, and then Mr. Cason Murphy came by and we addressed all the packages and got postage on them. Then we grabbed some lunch which lunch rather enjoyed, and then we did a little more work. I then had to do some errands and whatnot, then I picked up no mail and no packages, and then I came home and stayed in my nice, warm home environment. I wrote the blurb for our new release and prepped everything for the announcement. I then spent several hours sequencing the release that follows it. After that, I read through about twenty-five more pages of the new book, finding little mistakes here and there. And then I finally sat on my couch like so much dry and warm fish.

Last night, I watched the final episode of The Sopranos, Season One, and I have to say it was even more brilliant than I remembered. In fact, I’d say it was one of the greatest hours of television ever. Nancy Marchand was amazing in it, but so was everyone else, especially star James Gandolfini. During my viewing of this first season I really appreciated Lorraine Bracco’s performance much more than I had originally. After I finished that, I watched the new episode of Lost, which I know many people think is the best dramatic TV series in history. I don’t share that opinion, however, and I don’t, in fact, think it comes within a country mile of The Sopranos. So far, the first two episodes of the final season have left me a little cold. I certainly have enjoyed many episodes of the show, but this road they’re going down is not, for me, a grabber, although I’m sure it will somehow pay off in some way. That aside, do all networks promote their shows in as obnoxious a way as ABC? The hyperbole is nauseating and off-putting, and I would not be inclined to watch one of the show’s they were endless trumpeting. I remembered why I gave up watching network TV. And if I hadn’t, The Forgotten would have reminded me – I watched ten minutes of that dreck and had to shut it off. The writing was terrible, the cast a bore, and I just have to assume it’s fairly typical of other fare. I’m glad these shows have their ardent followers and provide enjoyment and entertainment for them, but count me as one who just doesn’t get it. And that’s what makes horse racing.

After my viewing, I did some work on the computer, listened to the sequence I came up with earlier and thought it pretty good, and then I just played on the computer.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we all hail the hail and hope that it doesn’t return, because it is most odd.

Today, I finally have a day in which not too much is happening, which I need. I do have several errands and whatnot to attend to, and some work to do on the computer, but I hope the rest of the day can be occupied with reading more of the manuscript and relaxing.

Tomorrow, CDs arrive but won’t be shipped until Friday morning, which is when Cason can be here. I may ship out the big dealer order on Thursday, which goes UPS. I have a lunch with writers Sam Bobrick and Ron Clark to talk about a project, and then I’m having supper with Mr. Barry Pearl, after which we’re seeing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the NoHo Arts Theatre, a production of the Interact Theatre Company.

Friday, we’ll be shipping lots o’ CDs. This weekend is going to be a little nutty – the big LA book fair, it turns out, conflicts with the Hollywood Show memorabilia show, which is most annoying. So, on Saturday I’ll go to the book fair and I’ll go to the Hollywood Show on Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, read a manuscript, deliver a manuscript to muse Margaret, eat something amusing, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and now that we’ve hailed the hail let’s just say to hell with the hail.
