GREEN DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s not so easy bein’ green and yet we all must be green because today is Green Day or, as we like to call it, St. Patrick’s Day. Yes, the leprechauns will be causing mischief and Finian may find his rainbow, and anyone who is not wearin’ of the green will get a swift kick in the Irish butt cheeks. We’ll be eatin’ of the Mulligan Stew and the O’Reilly Meatloaf. We’ll be speaking in an Irish brogue and dancin’ of the Irish jig. Well, that certainly got my Irish up. And the only other thing I need to know is how are things in Glocca Mora this fine day? I had a rather okay day yesterday. I got up, Cason came over, and we shipped out the rest of the dealer orders, and then had some breakfast at The Studio CafĂ©. Then I came home and did some work around the home environment. After that, I picked up a couple of packages from the mail place and did some errands and whatnot, not necessarily in that order. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Daddy’s Gone A Hunting, one of those Warner Archive home-grown DVDs. I hadn’t seen the film since I saw it on 42nd Street in 1969. It was pretty bad then, and it’s pretty bad now. The idea of the film is interesting, but Larry Cohen is simply an idea man – his screenplays reek of lazy writing, bad dialogue, and characters behaving stupidly (he co-wrote this film with Lorenzo Semple). And Carol White’s character is so irritating most of the time you never feel what you should for her, when she and her baby are in jeopardy. Scott Hylands made his debut in this film, and he’s fine. Mark Robson directs quite sloppily. The one huge plus the film has going for it is the score by John Williams, which includes quite a wacky title song with lyrics by Dory Previn. They used a print for the transfer, but the color is, thankfully, excellent and the print is in fine shape save for some dirt. Of course there are the reel change cue marks, but I like those.

After the movie, I toddled on over to Mr. Grant Geissman’s home environment, to begin the monumental task of entering all the fixes for em dashes and bad breaks. Within thirty seconds he realized what he’d done wrong the first time, and had he only realized it when we did our first session, I wouldn’t have had to spend eight hours painstakingly finding all the em dash things – once he’d entered it correctly, his program found every single one. But we had to do each separately and all the bad breaks and he had to quit at nine to do some other work. We only managed to do half the book – had we not had the problem, I think we would have been finished in an hour. So, we have to do another session now, as well as the photo layout. I did choose them, though, so he may do that on his own.

After the session, I went to Hamburger Hamlet and treated myself to nachos – way too much food, but I wanted it and I had it and starting today I am back on my very strict diet and I start jogging this very morning.

Well, why don’t we all click on the green Unseemly Button below whilst we have some Irish grog and get green with envy.

Today, I only have some errands and whatnot to attend to, and then I have an Irish dinner at Mr. Barry Pearl’s home environment. Other than that, I should finally be able to have a day almost to myself. I shall definitely jog – don’t know how far I’ll get, but I will be jogging a lot over the next few weeks.

Tomorrow and Friday I have some meetings and a work session, but no plans in the evenings. Saturday we have our LACCTAA event and I’m hoping the next book session can happen afterwards. Sunday I have a book signing at the yearly paperback show and then I have a recording session for a demo for the long musical. So, it’s a rather busy weekend. And then things get serious for the long musical’s staged reading, which will be an intense week at the end of the month.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some sort of jog, do some errands and whatnot, and then have dinner with Mr. Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy – she’ll be preparing some sort of Irish meal. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all celebrate the wearin’ of the green on Green Day.
