DEMOGRAPHICS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the Tony nominations have been announced, another day is upon us, and it is Wednesday. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you find such up-to-date information? Nowhere, that’s where. I was happy to see another of my regulars was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical – Christiane Noll. Congrats to her and all the nominees. I was, in fact, a little surprised at the Best Musical category, and I just don’t have any rooting interest for all these what they call jukebox musicals. It is shocking to see the lack of original scores in recent Tony nominations. Will it get better before it gets worse? Not when these what they call jukebox musicals come in and manage runs. Producers look at those, and, like reality TV, jump on that bandwagon. Audiences for Broadway shows used to be a lot different than they are now, and not, for me, for the better. I literally have almost 0 interest in seeing most of the shows I haven’t seen, save for a few plays. But this is what happens when Broadway is taken over by multitudinous producers, movie studios, and marketing people who are trying to turn Broadway into a demographic of not very high order. I’m hoping it changes, but unfortunately, once down this road there is very little chance of going back. Most movies are made for a very narrow demographic – that demographic is catered to, coddled, and given one movie after another that look, smell, and feel exactly the same. Well, there’s nothing to be done about it, so pardon the little mini-rant. I had quite a nice day yesterday because the book bonus CDs arrived, as did the helper, and we got everything packaged up and over to the post office. This took a little longer than doing plain old CDs – I had to sign each book, then insert the CD and booklet, then get the book in a padded envelope, then get the padded envelope into a flat rate priority envelope, which we then had to seal. As I’ve said, this preorder quadrupled any previous book of mine, and I may even have to reorder more books depending on how many sell at Mystery and Imagination’s signing. Also, I had a nice note on Facebook from someone I don’t know – he bought the book on Amazon and really liked it – he is a fan of Nudie Musical and I guess that’s why he got it. So, that made me feel really good. The helper and I then grabbed a quick spot of lunch at a place I’ve been wanting to try, but which is always jammed – Kings Road. I had a BLTA, and it was faboo – just great. So, that’s a new place I can frequent. After that, the helper left, and I did some errands and whatnot, and then I picked up some mail and a package. After that, I came back home, did some work on the computer, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Escape from LA, the sequel to Escape from New York. First off, I’m just not that much of a fan of John Carpenter, but I enjoyed Escape from New York all right. But this sequel is so terrible for so much of its running time it’s no wonder it died. LA has had a nine-point earthquake in the year 2000. In the year 2013, LA is an isolated island where they keep malcontents and non-conformists. Right. So, there’s some fun stuff with locations, but the geography is so laughably off it’s hilarious. I mean Kurt Russell heads over the Cahuenga Pass. There’s a brief scene on Mulholland. Then he asks where the Hollywood Bowl is. Then he’s suddenly walking on Vine with a destroyed Capitol Records building. He walks another few feet then suddenly he’s approaching the Grauman’s Chinese, which is, in fact a little over a mile away. Then he goes down to Sunset – the 5600 block, to be exact. Then he’s suddenly at Sunset and Doheny, which is, oh, about five miles away. And on it goes. The script is horrible, but there are a couple of amusing scenes, and some of what 2013 looks like is really so wacky that it’s enjoyable on some level. The transfer is okay.

After that, I watched Lost – a decent episode that plays the same card they have played endlessly in other seasons, and I’m not buying it for one second. After that, I just did some work on the computer and that was that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am quite tired and am quite ready to hit the road to dreamland.

Today, I shall be a demographic. Curmudgeonly person of a certain age. That will be my demographic and I want all are to be catered to ME for a change. Damn them, damn them all to hell. Other than being a demographic, I shall attend what will, most likely, be a ninety-minute meeting, after which I will do some errands and whatnot, and then do some work in the home environment.

Tomorrow I have kept completely free. The only thing I have to do is pack and buy some travel-sized toothpaste. I was thinking of not even bringing a suitcase, as I can fit the toothbrush and toothpaste in my computer case, but I know they like the toothpaste in a plastic baggy so I’ll just bring the suitcase and be done with it. Obviously, I will have very little in the suitcase.

Then early Friday, Mr. David Wechter will pick me up and we’ll go to the Burbank airport, where we will be on our way to the Seattle Airport. Once there, we will be whisked to our hotel by a car. Then we’ll go walking and look around, then we may join our very own MBarnum for a light repast, then we’ll see The Brain From Planet X, then we’ll do a talkback, then we’ll go out after that, hopefully with some hainsies/kimlets and the cast and crew of The Brain. And then, then next morning I’ll be on my way home.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or The Brain Tap, because today is the birthday of our very own Brainiac, dear reader George. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own Brainiac, dear reader George. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN BRAINIAC, DEAR READER GEORGE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up a package and mail, and then perhaps eat some refried beans. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all figure out exactly what demographic we’re in.
