LIPOSUCTION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle with a tummy-tuck. Do they still do tummy-tucks? Actually, I don’t even know what a tummy tuck is. Is that where they take a staple gun and staple your tummy somehow? That sounds bad. What’s that other thing they do – when they suck the fat out of you? Vacuuming that fat? It’s not called vacuuming; it’s something even more repulsive. What the HELL is it called. Liposuction, that’s what it is. I hate that, when I can’t think of a word or name. Liposuction. Do they still do liposuction? Does anyone still wear a hat? What the HELL am I talking about? Oh, yes, this week is flying by, like a gazelle with a tummy-tuck. I had a pleasantly pleasant day yesterday, doing pleasantly pleasant things. In fact, the only non-pleasantly pleasant thing that happened was that the piece o’ mail that is now a week overdue did not arrive. I guess I just play the waiting game, but it’s really irksome in an irksome way. Other than that, I got up, did the usual morning ablutions, answered e-mails, had telephonic calls, then had a very nice meeting with two very nice gals about some very nice things. The meeting lasted almost ninety minutes, and then I toddled off and picked up a package filled with some freebies I got, book-wise, including post cards, posters I can use for signings (these are very nice – you use a marker to put in time and place, then you can erase and use again), and some other little stuff like that. It’s a nice little bonus, and I have other freebies arriving soon, too, in fact, they should arrive this very day. I think those are bookmarks and business cards and stuff like that. I stopped at Gelson’s and bought some chicken breasts, an onion, and some mushrooms to sauté up for the meal o’ the day. Then I did some other errands and whatnot, and then I came home and rustled up the grub – I made my usual stroganoff-like sauce and it was quite yummilicious (over rice) and very filling. I felt like I needed a tummy tuck or liposuction after eating it. The fact is, no matter how filling, it’s a very calorie-friendly dish and I love it. I then did some work that needed doing, and then I went to You Tube and watched an extraordinary three-hour tribute to Michael Bennett, put on by Dancers Over 40.

It was basically a panel discussion with Bennett dancers and Bennett’s frequent collaborator, Bob Avian. Hosted by Harvey Evans, and featuring many Bennett folks, including Baayork Lee, Kelly Bishop, Margo Sappington, Alice Playton, and many others. My pal Gene Castle (with whom Bennett danced on Hullabaloo) was scheduled to be there, but was sick. Donna McKechnie would have been there, but she was working. There were some great stories, several clips, Seth Rudetsky did his funny deconstructing Turkey Lurkey Time, and there were many moving stories. The three hours flew by – the entire event is up in 17 parts and I cannot recommend it highly enough. After I finished that, I watched some more Joe Besser Stooges shorts – none of these are great, but there are a few laughs along the way. One interesting thing is that Besser had it in his contract that he could not be hit by the other Stooges, so Larry offered to take extra hits. The series was so tired by 1957 and it really shows. But the shocker, for me, was that they were only in their 50s then. I then began watching a motion picture on the DVR entitled La Cage Aux Folles, the wonderful original film that is as funny now as it was then. I got through the first half and shall finish it this very evening.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly this entire section needs liposuction.

Today, helper will be here and we’ll be shipping a couple of fair-sized orders, organizing, and she’ll be doing some work on the computer, too. We’ll probably grab some lunch, and then I’ll be writing, hopefully picking up this very needed piece of mail, and then attending to some other stuff. The evening is mine all mine.

Tomorrow I will be writing, and then in the evening I’ll be seeing Miss Nancy Dussault at the Gardenia. There are several things that may or may not happen on the weekend, and I’m trying to figure all that out.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, package orders, ship packages, eat, pick up mail, do errands and whatnot, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the single most exciting dance number you have ever seen? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we hit the road to dreamland, where we hopefully will not dream of liposuction.
