WHIP CRACK AWAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am a wee bit overtired from a very long day, an incredibly annoying piece of mail, errands and whatnot, answering lots of e-mails and then just being restless and still tired from not sleeping enough thanks to some cretin down the street who has been hammering all week from eight to eight-twenty in the morning. If it happens THIS morning, THIS person will be paying the cretin a little visit. So, I think I shall just whip through the notes and, as Calamity Jane sang, whip crack away. That’s also a favorite song of drug users. In any case, I shall now whip crack away. Yesterday was exhilarating and annoying and annoying and exhilarating, not necessarily in that order. I got up early, thanks to the hammering. I had a very long telephonic conversation with the former composer of the long musical, which was very nice. He’s going to be playing a major part in our Kritzerland at the Gardenia evenings. Then I had to mosey on over to the engineer’s home environment. I heard everything he mixed and had very few comments. It all sounded very good to my ears. It’s similar and yet quite different than the original LP sound – we chose to place some things differently than they did, which we felt fine doing since the original mix is included in the set. However, due to some weird miscommunication, he hadn’t done four songs. So, I had to sit there while he did them, and then we finessed those, but I really don’t like to sit there, because I like to listen when the rough mix is done, without having heard all the passes. So, when I got home and heard those four tracks, I still want to finesse just a bit more. In any case, this has been a thrilling CD to work on and I couldn’t be more pleased. For many people for many years, the pitch issues involved have precluded them from enjoying this particular cast album, so I’m hoping those people will be especially pleased with the word we were able to accomplish.

After that, I came back to the Valley and picked up a package and an incredibly annoying piece of mail, which is the result of an incredibly annoying human being sticking his ugly puss in other people’s business and willfully trying to cause harm. I’m now having a discussion with a lawyer about this incredibly annoying human, to see if we want to write him a strongly worded note about interfering with our business. In any case, I already sent an initial response via e-mail, and come Monday I’ll have a conversation and hopefully everything will be fine. So send all your excellent vibes and xylophones for a pleasant conversation on Monday and that everything will be fine and dandy and also dandy and fine. And, if you feel like it, send the incredibly annoying human being really bad karma vibes. He really deserves them. And karma will take care of him, oh, yes, karma will take care of him. I drove over to Hugo’s, as I was starving, but I was so annoyed by the little missive, that I just drove home. Since I had very little foodstuffs in the house, I ate rather stupidly – I had two pouches of microwave white rice, with some sautéed butter and onions. And that was my dinner. Later I got some low-calorie low fat-gram baked whatever they are – you know, not potato chips but more like rice cakes or something. I had two small packs of those and a Big Hunk for dessert. Talk about weird food.

I then finished watching La Cage Aux Folles II, which, despite the occasional amusing bit, is really a bad movie. It’s like the filmmakers forgot everything about why the first movie worked so beautifully. But the actors are wonderful, as is the score by Maestro Ennio Morricone.

After that, I finally popped open volume one of the humungous three-volume set of music from Akira Kurosawa films. I’ve had these forever, but I’d only listened to volume two, the one with High and Low, Yojimbo, Sanjuro – the stuff from that period. In volume one I listened to The Bad Sleep Well, and then from volume three I listened to Dodes’kaden, which is a stunningly beautiful and touching score.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m moving fast – whip crack away, baby, and I’d like to whip crack away on the incredibly annoying human being. The Incredibly Annoying Human Being – that sounds like a Bert I. Gordon film. A story of a mentally unbalanced giant ego run amok, but then, in the end, destroyed by his own raging, rampaging egotistical insanity. I’d see that movie.

Today, I shall prepare everything for our Monday morning announcement. The mastering guy should be finishing both presentations – the original LP mix and our new mix – and then I’ll get the audio samples to the web guy. And then I have to move right on to the next project, which announces one week later. I also will do some writing, some errands and whatnot, and then I’m driving to Orange County to see Carousel. I’ll be supping before the show, and then coming right home after – after I say hi to my friends who are in the show and in the band.

Tomorrow is, of course, our annual Tony Awards Partay and you will not want to miss one minute of it because it is the best Tony Awards Partay on all the Internet and environs. Prior to that, I think I shall do absolutely nothing.

Next week is busy – meetings, meals, writing, prepping – all the usual things.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, I must do some writing, and I must see Carousel. Today’s topic of discussion: I do love all our catchphrases here at haineshisway.com. What are your favorites of our dear reader catchphrases? And do you find yourself using them when you’re away from this here site? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I put the whip and the crack away.
