BOOK SOUP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m happy to say that the Book Soup signing was not the disaster I feared it would be. In fact, it went splendidly and we had quite a few nice people in attendance, including a few I didn’t know, which is always fun. The people at the store were very nice, we sold quite a few books, I read a little, answered questions, and just prattled on. Then I went to the back desk and signed and chatted with people. After we were done, several of us went over to the nearby Hamburger Hamlet for some food. That was just what I needed – a nice group of folks to unwind with – we had good food, good conversation, and there was even a five-year-old in attendance who is a total doll. At our impromptu meal was Shelly Markham, my pal Marshall Harvey, our friend Henry Stanny, Cabaret West’s Les Traub, The Singer aka Laura Wolfe, my friend Michelle, her nineteen-year-old and five-year-old daughters, and helper Amy. Also seen at the signing – David Wechter and our Totally Hidden Video compatriot Tom Kramer, Doug Haverty’s ever-lovin’ Dorothy, a couple of Facebook friends, my friend Debbie’s daughter, Olivia (so sweet of her to come), and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few others I knew.

Prior to that, I’d had a pretty okay day. I got up around nine, did some work on the computer, and then my pal Jon Burlingame came by to pick up some CDs. We had a nice chat, and then I went and had some bacon and eggs, then did some banking, then did my first clothes-buying spree in over two years – bought a few pairs of pants, which I desperately needed, along with a couple of sweaters (I had 0 sweaters), and a couple of polo shirts. That should keep me for another couple of years. I then got the motor car washed, picked up one lonely little package and no mail and then came home and did a mile and a half jog. Then I concentrated on getting the Gardenia show cast and I had some success – we’ve now got everyone except one gal and I have someone in mind for that track. So, for now we’ve got a terrific group – Dan Callaway, Doug Carpenter, Jane Noseworthy, and Alet Taylor, all really terrific and very different from each other. Hoping we’ll be fully cast today.

So, all in all everything turned out okay. Of course, I never got around to writing new liner notes which, if we’re to have a Monday announcement, I really have to buckle down Winsocki and do and sooner than later. We’re trying to get the cover art done and I think the mastering guy can get the master done in time for the announcement. We shall see.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a lot to do this very day and I need my beauty sleep.

Today, I shall try to sleep in, then I’ve got an eleven o’clock telephonic interview, after which I have some errands and whatnot and hopefully some packages to pick up, including a copy of a film I have to watch in order to write my liner notes. Then I’ll watch said film, write the liner notes and get all that stuff to the designer and then I think we’ll be good to go and go to good.

Tomorrow I have a lunch meeting – not sure where yet, but we may do Barney’s Beanery, since we both like that jernt. Once that’s done, then the rest of the day is mine all mine. The weekend is pretty booked – dinner with dear reader Druxy on Saturday (although it has to be early because I have to be here at eight because someone’s paying a visit), then on Sunday several things happening. And next week is humongously busy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do an interview, do a jog, do some errands and whatnot, pick up some packages, watch a movie and write liner notes. Today’s topic of discussion: My love for book stores knows no bounds – what were your all-time favorite bookstores when you were growing up – what made them special – how often did you hang out at a particular store? What was the first book you ever remember actually purchasing? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland thankful that the Book Soup signing was a bowl and not a cup.
