TIME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, has anyone noticed that October is flying by, like a gazelle with a hangnail? It’s just unbelievable, actually. I gotta tell you. Time marches on and on marches time. The ticking of the clock keeps ticking as we move inexorably forward to the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Time – the bitch goddess. The bitch goddess – time. So it is written, so it shall be done. Thus it has been, thus it will always be. Time after time I tell myself that I’m. Parsley, sage, rosemary and time. Time – the great leveler. I’ve had the time of my li-i-ife. Just in time. Time and again. Time is Tim with an E. Did you realize that? Conversely, Time is Tim without an E. What the HELL am I talking about? Whatever it is, it’s taking a lot of time. Speaking of time, perhaps it’s time to actually write some notes. Yesterday, for example, I had a very good time. I was awakened by the doorbell – the CDs arrived, followed by the helper. Whilst she packaged up CDs, I printed out a few invoices for the big packages, answered e-mails and got ready for my LACC talk. The helper got all the boxes out of the house – for the first time in over a year, there are not boxes under the piano, in the dining room, or anywhere else – it’s so nice without all that clutter. She then took the packages to the postal office and the UPS Store, while I moseyed on over to LACC. Through some miscommunication, I found that I was expected to just come on and talk for an hour – that’s hard for me, so I asked the faculty member who was introducing me to please sit and ask questions. He said fine, and he jotted down some things. I was then introduced and we began. He asked some great questions and I had a great time answering. He took me to some interesting places – the only thing I ended up actually reading from the book was the terrible Hollywood Reporter review for Nudie Musical – it actually got gasps from the kids. But I finished by reading the first rave we got, and that got a nice reaction. I told lots of stories, and then we took questions, and I love doing that. The hour went by really fast, and the last ten minutes I got to do some pretty amusing stuff. I’d brought fifteen softcover books and we gave them out to the first fifteen people who got to the box – I then signed them, met a lot of really terrific new students, and that was that. The faculty member, Les Ferreira, is a great guy and he made everything very easy.

After that, I came back to the San Fernando Valley and picked up no mail and no packages. I then met the Kritzerland designer for lunch at Mo’s – I had their yummilicious bacon cheeseburger, some cole slaw and a little potato salad. After that, I came home. I then began cleaning out some drawers and cabinets – I’m really throwing out everything that’s been accumulating for years – I’m only keeping anything that’s really interesting or necessary. I tossed a lot of stuff, and it’s opened up a lot of room to store things neatly. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Pretty Maids All In A Row, a film of Roger Vadim, starring Rock Hudson, Angie Dickenson, Telly Savalas, and a bevy of very beautiful young gals. I somehow managed to miss this during its original release – probably because it got wretched reviews and was only out for a week. The DVD is one of those Warner Archive DVDr things, but the fun thing about this is that the first hundred or so people who ordered got signed copies – signed by Angie. Well, it’s truly one of the worst films ever made. It has totally amateurish direction by Vadim, some decent performances, and a terrible script. Of course, it might have been meant as a black comedy, but then you’d have to have a director who understood what black comedy is and, in fact, what comedy is. As it is, it is a movie that could not be made today – it takes place in a high school where a male teacher (Mr. Hudson) is sleeping with a whole slew of his young underage students, and one of the young male students is sleeping with a female teacher played by Miss Dickenson. Of course, things like that could never happen – kidding. There is some nudity, which is always fun, but in the end it just sort of lays there like a dead herring in the moonlight. I’m glad I finally saw it, but it’s really, really bad. The transfer is nice, though, with good color.

I then continued my throwing out of things – I found some interesting music – and a list of what were then potential songs for the first Guy Haines album – interestingly, we’re doing two that didn’t make the cut back then on the new album. And then the evening was done and time had marched on and it was time to write these here notes, which I did in the nick of time.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because, really, isn’t it time we did?

Today, I don’t have anything planned, save for more cleaning out drawers and tossing unnecessary stuff. I will definitely do a jog, I will definitely do some errands and whatnot, I will hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, and I will then take a long drive to attend a pre-show party, then the opening night of Happy Days, The Musical, and then the after-party, all of which I’m looking forward to very much.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye comes to clean and I have a bunch of stuff to do. After that, I’ll come home, and then I’m supping with my friend Debby and her daughter Olivia. Sunday, I’m hoping there’s nothing going on, as I’d love a complete day of rest and relaxation. Next week is incredibly busy, with rehearsals, work sessions, meetings, meals, and casting our December show, although, happily, I already have three people cast.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Shimmy, because today is the birthday of our very own Mr. Cason Murphy. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own Mr. Cason Murphy. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN MR. CASON MURPHY!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, clean and toss, pick up packages and an important envelope (hopefully), and then attend two partays and an opening night. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – Blu and Ray, The Magician and episodes of Highway Patrol, thanks to dear reader MBarnum. CD, an upcoming Kritzerland project. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, for it is time to do so.
