Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes on location from the Land of Port, where I am happily ensconced in my lovelier than lovely hotel room. Thus far it’s been a marvelously marvelous trip save for the extreme annoyance of having lost a pair of very expensive sunglasses. Just before I went through security at the airport, I put them in a pocket that’s on the inside lining of my jacket. I’ve put glasses there many times and because there’s a button in the middle of the pocket it’s very hard for things to fall out of there. But somewhere between security and boarding the plane, that is exactly what must have happened. They were my favorite pair, but thankfully I have two other pairs that I like waiting for me back home. Other than that, the flight was brief (on a really teeny-tiny plane), on-time, and JMK was there to pick me up. We drove directly to the hotel, where I unpacked. Then we walked over to a nearby Rite-Aid so I could get a few things, then it was on to the palatial JMK home environment. It’s a lovelier than lovely and very large home, and it is populated with the delightfully delightful JMK wife, Betsy, and his two wonderful boys. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with a surprise – our very own dear reader Jane, who, I must say, looks more beautiful with each passing day. We had so much fun yakking. Then JMK and I went over the two songs I may or may not sing tomorrow (depending on how my voice feels), and then the second surprise occurred – JMK had invited a gal named Tina Paradiso over, along with her very nice husband. He’d told me that I had some kind of connection with Tina and the connection was the wonderful and already much-missed Michelle Nicastro, with whom Tina had appeared in both the revue Blame It On The Movies and the LA company of Les Miz. We had many other friends in common, too. And, of course, there was the wonderfully wonderful dear reader George to complete our merry troupe. Dinner was great – Betsy made yummilicious pasta and broccoli, and Tina brought over an incredible salad. I ate so much of that salad that I still feel ready to burst. For dessert, it was a great chocolate cake thing. All of it was excellent, and the conversation was sparkling and fast and fun. A perfect evening. Then JMK took me back to the hotel and Jane came along to keep us company.
Once back at the hotel, I wrote the blurb and got everything prepared for our Monday Kritzerland announcement. This has been a true whirlwind getting this ready this fast, but I just couldn’t sit on it – it’s a major release of a beloved and iconic film score to a beloved and iconic film and I was just too excited to hold it back. Luckily, I knew the film so well that the notes were very easy to write. We’ve done a full color booklet for this one because we had such great photographs. Anyway, I got the blurb done and sent to the big online dealer, and then made some corrections to the liner notes and got those implemented. I prepared our eBlast and as long as the score tracks are done by Sunday afternoon we’ll be good to go for a Monday morning announcement.
Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a long day ahead of me and the event and I want to get as much beauty sleep as I possibly can.
Today, I shall get up, use the exercise room and do the treadmill, then JMK will stop by and we’ll go off to visit Powell’s bookstore. Then he’ll drop me back at the hotel and I’ll get ready for the event and he’ll come gather me up an hour before. I’m hoping we have a decent-sized crowd, but whatever the crowd, I’m hoping it will be a fun event for everyone concerned. Afterwards, I’ll sell and sign books, and then we’ll all go out for something to eat. We may also eat a little something before the show.
Sunday, I’ll actually get up really early and accompany Jane to the airport, saving one trip. I’ll have a two-hour wait there, but that’s fine with me. When I get back to LA, I have to Xerox music, burn CDRs and get my cast over to get them so they have time to learn their songs. Then, hopefully we’ll have the mastered score tracks done so I can choose the seven audio samples. Once that’s done, we’ll be ready to rock and roll and also roll and rock.
Next week, I will probably not have a minute to rest – extremely busy week, and that will continue right through the rest of November. Happily, busy is good.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get a good night’s sleep, I must do the treadmill, I must go to a bookstore, I must get ready, I must do an event, and I must go out for some foodstuffs afterward. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite scary movies? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland in the Land of Port.
