WEHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, whatever happened to Sunday being a day of rest? As a matter of fact, whatever happened to Baby Jane, not to mention Aunt Alice and Helen. Oh, that should be WEHT in Internet lingo. In any case, the original question was, whatever happened to Sunday being a day of rest? For example, yesterday was Sunday and yet I got no rest whatsoever. Oh, I’d planned it so I would get some rest, but sometimes the best laid plans go awry. And why are plans always getting laid? Lucky plans. I gotta tell you. In any case, I had a very good night’s sleep and I got up at nine-thirty. I spent an hour doing fixes and adjustments to the ten pages I’d written the day before, then wrote two new ones. Then I decided to go to storage and pull the charts for the next Gardenia show. The helper’s best friend met me there and we found the two boxes we needed and pulled the music. We’re missing a few things, which is surprising from an album that late in the game – the only thing I can think of was that since everything fell apart after that album, in terms of the label who made it, that music may be in a whole different box or file because someone may not have had time to do it properly. We have most of it, and the rest I can get easily. I still haven’t found a musical director and I have to rectify that today, oh, yes, I have to rectify that today. After that, the helper’s best friend and I had a quick lunch at the Eclectic CafĂ©. I had their tostada salad, which was very good. Then I came home and began writing again. Over the next hours I did a total of eleven pages, so that was great. Then I watched some of the remake of Carrie, which is one of the most horrendously bad things I’ve ever seen – it’s like watching a high school production of the De Palma version. Nothing at all works – the direction is horrible and amateur, the effects are laughable, the performances don’t measure up to the De Palma version in any instance, and the music is completely off the wall. And since it was a TV movie, you don’t even get the nudity.

Then I decided to write the contextual commentary for the Gardenia show – I wasn’t going to do that until tonight, but I really just wanted all this stuff off my plate so I did it all – five pages and lots of fun facts and anecdotes. It took a long time but am I glad it’s done. Then I downloaded our new master, which sounds superb. I got the audio samples to the web guy, made some fixes to the packaging, decided to add two more bonus tracks since the CD was just a little short for my tastes and we had the two extra tracks. Then I had to proof and approve the item page on the Kritzerland site and then I had to prepare the eBlast to send out tomorrow morning at six, when we officially announce. And that was my day and that was my evening – I basically never stopped, save for lunch and Carrie. But I got everything done and now I’m clear to just write (and hopefully print out a LOT of orders) and do our rehearsal for the Gardenia.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I can’t even see straight anymore and when you see crooked it’s really hard to type and be coherently coherent.

Today, I shall be up at six in the morning to announce our new CD. I’ll try to go back to bed after that to sleep for another couple of hours. Then I’ll get up, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, do some banking and errands and whatnot, futz and fix with yesterday’s eleven pages, and then hopefully write another six to ten today. I’ll eat something light but amusing at some point, and I’ve got a couple of packages to ship. I may even have time to watch a motion picture in the evening.

Tomorrow, I will do a little shipping, and then I’ll be writing right up until our rehearsal at five. Then I’ll be joining a visiting friend for dinner, after which I shall return and maybe even write a little more.

Wednesday, we have a sound check at two, and the show in the evening. I’ll have to do most of my writing in the morning that day, and then in the afternoon I’ll get Muse Margaret her next batch of pages for her approval.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce a CD, fix pages, write new pages, do banking and errands and whatnot and hopefully pick up a package or three, and then eat something light but amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Stephen Sondheim songs. And what was the first Sondheim show you ever saw and what was the first Sondheim song you ever heard? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and ponder WEHT.
