TRAVELIN’ MAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it looks like I’ll be a travelin’ man come Tuesday next. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, will be a travelin’ man come Tuesday next. I really had pretty much made up my mind not to go to Florida to put up the Linda Purl and Gregory Harrison show, but because of Linda’s broken ankle and us having to redo things, I really couldn’t not go. So, flight is booked and I leave Tuesday morning. We rehearse Wednesday and then they do the first two of their four shows (two a night). That way, I can see if something isn’t landing and we can adjust things if necessary. Then I come home first thing Thursday morning – so, a very short trip. I can certainly pack very light, and I’ll also be able to finish proofing the book on the flights (no direct flights – so it’s a longish connecting flight via Houston). Timing is good because the singers will already have their music and CDs, and shipping our two new releases won’t happen until a week from Friday at the earliest. And even if it was to happen say on Thursday, the new helper can be here to do everything.

Yesterday was a very busy little day. I got up early, answered e-mails, printed out quite a few new orders, and then The Singer and I went to John Boswell’s to finish doing the last four songs and getting the accompaniment recorded. That went well, and then I grabbed some eggs and a bagel before meeting the new helper and the interim helper. The new helper got up to speed very quickly and she’s now got the Kritzerland computer and she’ll play with that over the next few days to continue getting used to the program we use. But she actually did the shipping that needed to be done, and so I think she’s going to work out just fine. After that, I had to hurry to Linda Purl’s for our final LA rehearsal. We ran the entire show, top to bottom and it’s really very entertaining and the two of them sparkle and shine. It looks like the show runs around seventy minutes, which is a perfect length. I had only a couple of nitpicky notes and that was that. I then came home, answered e-mails, had a few telephonic conversations, booked my flights and hotel and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled The Deliberate Stranger, a TV movie from 1986, starring Mark Harmon as killer Ted Bundy. I found the film pretty standard stuff in terms of style, but the story was certainly interesting. The teleplay was pretty graceless with a lot of exposition stated in rather bland fashion, but I enjoyed it very much, thanks to some excellent performances, especially Mark Harmon, who I thought was terrific. The film has a very annoying electronic score by Gil Melle. The transfer is fine – it’s one of those Warner Archive homegrown DVD-rs.

After that, I did some more work on the computer and we continued our quest to find our second male singer – why this is sometimes so difficult is beyond me. Oh, we could have any number of people, but I’m trying to have folks who are at least somewhat known here in LA. Hopefully today we’ll lock someone down.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because this travelin’ man needs to travel to the bedroom environment for some beauty sleep.

Today, I shall be up very early and over to storage by nine to pull the charts for our next Kritzerland at the Gardenia show. Then I’ll have to Xerox what we’re using, and then I’ll make CDs for the singers and our musical director, after which they can all come by and pick them up. I’ll also do some proofing, some errands and whatnot, hopefully I’ll pick up a package or three, and then I hope to find at least a few hours of ME time.

Tomorrow, the new helper will come and we’ll organize things that have become unorganized over the last few weeks. I may or may not have a dinner to attend. Friday will hopefully be a light day, and then the weekend comes and I have very little planned at the moment.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, go to storage and pull charts, I must Xerox, I must make CDs, I must proof, I must pick up a package or three, I must eat, and then I must watch a motion picture. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as this travelin’ man hits the road to dreamland.
