A CLEAVER IN THE FACE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and not only that but I have to be up an hour earlier than her arrival, as there’s something being delivered and, of course, they have to give you a window of time – my window of time is eight to noon. So, I had a rather okay day yesterday, with nothing all that compelling happening, other than finding out that tapes have been pulled for an upcoming Kritzerland Holy Grail release and they’ll be transferred sometime next week. I had a rough night’s sleep and really only got about five hours all told. But curiously, I was not really tired during the day. I did have some bad allergy problems, which were finally solved when I took an Alavert. I had some lunch (pastrami sandwich with cole slaw and Russian dressing and onion rings – lunch with Lauren has been rescheduled for next week sometime), after which I picked up no mail and no packages. Hopefully some of each will be here today, including, hopefully, an important envelope. I did errands and whatnot, I did a little work on liner notes, and found that quite a few e-mails I’d sent via AOL and Mac Mail bounced back, which is why I wasn’t getting responses from anyone. Since several of those were time sensitive and important, it may well be time to give up the AOL addresses, which I would have done long ago except so many of the places I deal with, like paypal, have that address. I think maybe over the next few months I’ll begin the process of changing all that – until then, I guess I’ll have to keep it. I resent all those e-mails from g-mail and they all went through instantly. I had a couple of important telephonic conversations, talked to our guest star, Sharon McNight, and Dan Callaway, who’s been in New York doing Where’s Charley came by to pick up his music and CD – he’s crazy about the three songs I gave him – Santa Fe, Out There, and Pink Fish. After all that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching The Bible… In The Beginning. As mentioned, I was surprised that I kind of enjoyed the first half of the film up to intermission. Well, the second half is not nearly as good and seemed quite interminable. George C. Scott is excellent, and Ava Garder does her Ava Gardner thing, but it just went on and on. The transfer is pretty terrific and the sound is fantastic, especially showing off the wonderful score by Toshiro Mayuzumi. Then I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Bay of Blood, directed by Mario Bava. I’d never seen it under this title or its US title, Twitch of the Death Nerve. I’m a very big fan of Bava so always enjoy seeing his films, although I prefer the early ones to the later ones. Bay of Blood is really interesting, being sort of the precursor to what is called the slasher film. In fact, Friday, The 13th pretty much ripped off a couple of death scenes in Bay of Blood wholesale. There are some surprisingly gruesome deaths in Bay of Blood for 1971 – the film was ahead of its time, really, and was pretty influential. It doesn’t really add up to much and the plot is a little confusing as to who is doing what to whom, but I liked it fine.

After that, I did a few things and had an e-mail from former dear reader Hisaka – she told me that she and her family are safe and sound in Tokyo.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep and can only hope that I do not dream of decapitation, a cleaver in the face, or a slit throat, oh my. A Cleaver In The Face – that’s the title of my next novel.

Today, I shall be up at eight, she of the Evil Eye will be here at nine, and at some point between eight and noon delivery people will make a delivery, after which I’ll go do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages and, more importantly, the important envelope, and then I’ll come home and rustle up a batch of tuna pasta salad, which will be my meal for today and tomorrow – I always lose weight on the tuna pasta salad diet. In the evening, I may or may not go to the Gardenia to see some of Karen Morrow’s students strut their stuff. We shall see.

Tomorrow, I may or may not have a work session with the musical director of the Gardenia show – I’m thinking we’ll try to do it in the afternoon. In the morning, I’ll be doing a book signing at the Mission Hills paperback show at eleven. Come one, come all, and tell them Bruce-O sent you.

Next week will be very busy – we announce our new title on Monday morning, then have our first rehearsal later that day. Then I have meetings, work sessions, meals and our second rehearsal.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up at eight, have a delivery, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, eat some tuna pasta salad, and maybe go to the Gardenia – if I opt out of that, I’ll watch motion pictures instead. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite scary horror movies – not the classic oldies, but ones from 1960 on? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I will hopefully dream sweet dreams and not dream about a cleaver in the face.
