FOOLS RUSH IN WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, did you know, for example, that fools rush in where angels fear to tread? I don’t know why, but that phrase just came to me. First of all, what’s with the cowardly angels? Don’t fear to tread, you angels, sometimes treading can be fun – ask any fool. But I wonder if any angels rush in where fools fear to tread? That would be a fine kick in the pants, wouldn’t it? Frankly, I have been both fool and angel and sometimes both – a fooang. Yes, sometimes one should dread the tread, but there are other times when one should tread instead – sometimes when you tread instead you get ahead. If anyone would like to drop me an e-mail and tell me what the HELL I’m talking about, it would be most appreciated. Yesterday was another summery day. My next-door neighbor’s gal pal was out taking the sun in her usual bathing attire of bottom only. I did not wear my bathing attire. I got up after a good night’s sleep with some really outrĂ© dreams, answered e-mails, did some work on the computer, had a brief visit from a fool who rushed in and then rushed out, and then I toddled off to have an egg salad sandwich (with bacon) and fries. After that, I received an e-mail from amazon France telling me two count them two packages were returned to them – one stamped “unknown” and one stamped “undeliverable.” Say what? I’ve been getting packages from amazon France, amazon England, amazon Italy and amazon Japan for years, all to the same address. So what is this unknown and undeliverable bushwa (awhsub, spelled backwards)? They refunded the money and I wrote to them of my displeasure and then placed the order again. Hopefully this time they will come through. There’s no excuse for customs or the USPS to send back packages that are perfectly addressed with their proper customs forms. It is, in fact, an outrage. Just one day prior a package from amazon UK arrived just fine. I then picked up one count them one package and no mail, then did some errands and whatnot and then came back home. I prepped everything for Monday’s new release announcement, which will be posted here this evening at midnight to give the handful of hainsies/kimlets who care about these things the jump on ordering. After that, I sat on my couch like so much foolish, angelic fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture I TIVOd entitled Divorce, American Style, starring Mr. Dick Van Dyke, Miss Debbie Reynolds, Miss Jean Simmons, Mr. Jason Robards, and many others. I remember seeing it a couple of times when it came out – it was a hit, got lots of laughs and was considered pretty adult for its time. I cannot say that time has been good to it – it’s forced, unfunny (save for one or two things, once of which is its inspired main title sequence), and just sort of lays there now, although all the performances are good, as is the wonderful score by Dave Grusin. The hi-def transfer was very sharp but the color was very brown. I then watched the first half of a motion picture on Blu and Ray (an import) entitled Brighton Rock, a Boulting Brothers film of Graham Greene’s novel (Greene and Terrence Rattigan wrote the screenplay). It’s a crisp little gangster melodrama – very efficiently directed, with really good performances. I’ll talk a bit more about it when I finish the film this very evening.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because soon I will tread to the bed so I can get my beauty sleep.

Today, I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to do, I will hopefully deliver a big box o’ CDs to a local dealer, I will do a little shipping, I will eat something light but amusing, I will hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, and I will relax.

Tomorrow, I’m sure we will have a rehearsal with The Singer and then I’m attending the opening night of a new musical starring our very own Miss Alet Taylor. Sunday should be a rehearsal day, and next week the cast of the Gardenia show will come pick up their material, and I have rehearsals, meetings, and meals all week long. I did gather up most of the music we’ll need, so that’s good.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, perhaps deliver a box o’ CDs, do some shipping, hopefully pick up a few packages and an important envelope, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, a new recording of the Rozsa and Korngold violin concertos – the Rozsa was, I felt, poorly recorded and not played with anywhere near the finesses and passion of the Heifitz, which is definitive, but the Korngold was much better in every regard. Blu and Ray, finishing up Brighton Rock and then we shall see. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst this fool rushes into the bedroom where even the angels do not fear to tread.
