A JEW SATED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am home from a Passover seder and am feeling quite Jewish as I write these here notes. Oy. See what I mean? What is it, fish? See what I mean? I had quite a nice time. There were four count them four questions asked and answered in both Hebrew and English. There were plagues cast out. Elijah was a no-show. There was a hard-boiled egg. There was a gefilte fish with horseradish. There was matzo ball soup. There was charoses. There was matzo and a lot of it. There was tri-tip that was very tasty, there were mashed potatoes, there were yummilicious carrots, and it was all very festive. I met nice people and had a good time. I hadn’t been to an actual seder in about six years, I think. And, as Jews are wont to do after a big meal, I am now plotzing. The interesting thing about seder meals, for me at least, is that I didn’t overeat or anything but you still feel like you’re about to explode. That is called The Phenomenon of The Jewish Meal. In any case, I am a Jew Sated.

Prior to the seder, I’d had eight hours of good sleep, at which point I arose and answered e-mails, had a telephonic conversation with my friend Miss Barbara Deutsch, had some words with several different people at the publishers, after which I did some errands and whatnot and picked up a couple of packages. Then I had a nice work session with Shelly Markham, and now he has a lot of homework to do, listening to his CDR and making notes on the charts and practicing and getting them in his fingers. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I finished watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Incredibles. I enjoyed it when I first saw it, and enjoyed it even more this second time. It’s a wonderfully done film, beautifully animated, with a fun story, good dialogue, and good characters. It’s a bit longer than most of the Pixar films, but it never over stays its welcome. The transfer is impeccable as is the sound. I then decided to check out the transfer of The Boy Friend on one of those Warner Archive homegrown DVDs. The transfers have been very good of late, although they are hit and miss even now. But unlike when they began, the transfers are more hit than miss, especially in the color department, which is, for me, very heartening. So, sadly, I was not so happy to see that The Boy Friend is quite brown, yellow, orange, without its necessary complement of blue, which means that whatever the element was is certainly fading. The film’s original color was very much designed to look bright and beautiful and like Technicolor. One of our dear readers says it gets better after the first fifteen minutes, so I’ll be interested to see if I agree. Just because some of the colors are saturated doesn’t mean they’re correct. This is a film I know like the back of my hand, and let me tell you I know the back of my hand quite well. So, I’ll give more thoughts after I’ve finished watching it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am a Jew Sated and I need my beauty sleep.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s sleep. Then I have to write the second set of liner notes (I never had time to begin it yesterday, nor was I in the mood, frankly), I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to do, some packages to pick up and a light and fun meal to eat.

Tomorrow, we ship out a LOT of Black Sunday CDs, and then I have to prep our two CD announcement for Monday. Friday, I have a meeting with Miss Deutsch and some other stuff, and the weekend has a lot of stuff to deal with, including an Easter dinner at the home of Barry Pearl’s ever-lovin’ Cindy. Barry, of course, won’t be there, since he’s in a Broadway show at the moment.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, write liner notes, do errands and whatnot, pick up packages, and eat. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, a Jew Sated.
