BUSY LITTLE BK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week has flown by, like a gazelle reading Captain Billy’s Whiz Bang. I gotta tell you. Every day seems to be busier than the day before and I am looking forward to tomorrow, when I think I can actually get in a few hours of ME time. I do, of course, enjoy being a busy little bee, or, in my case, a busy little BK. In any case, it is high time I wrote these here notes so that I can actually get them up and posted on time and so I can actually get to bed and get some beauty sleep. I had quite the busy little day yesterday, in which I was quite a busy little BK. I got up really early (earlier than I’d meant to), then helper and CDs arrived and we shipped out 1000 CDs. I then went to the Dale of Glen to get two new tires (the rear tires), then I had lunch with a friend at BJ’s Brewery where I had a pulled pork sandwich. I’ve really liked it there every time I’ve had it, but yesterday’s pulled pork sandwich wasn’t too good. After that, I picked up a couple of nothing packages and no mail, then came home. Waiting for me was the galley of the new book along with the cover. I had to have them redo the copyright page because they did not follow our simple instructions – they did the fix and resent and I approved everything. So, now it goes to the printers and in about a week I’ll receive my test books. Once those are approved, the book goes on sale. Then I had to work out our rehearsal schedule for the next Gardenia show – thankfully, no one had any problems and all three rehearsals are now set, which is great. I then approved packaging on our two new releases and got them sent off for approvals. Then I did a brief mile and a half jog, had a few telephonic calls, and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture entitled The King’s Speech. I was quite concerned that it just wouldn’t live up to everything I’d heard and read, but it did, Blanche, it did. In fact, it surpassed what I’d heard and read. Simply put, it’s a wonderful film – beautifully written, nicely directed, with absolutely fantastic performances from everyone. How lovely to see Claire Bloom in a film, and Derek Jacobi and Michael Gambon. But the film belongs to Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, and both of them give brilliant performances, filled with nuance and craft and yes, Virginia, you can actually hear them speak and understand what they’re saying. The score by Alexandre Desplat is excellent (a bit of classical music, as well). The film is quite amusing at times, and truly touching at others, and the moments leading up to the speech itself are masterful and suspenseful. The transfer is great, as is the sound. Highly recommended by the likes of me.

I then began watching something called Somewhere, a FILM by Sofia Coppola. The first twenty-five minutes are about boredom and ennui, and let me tell you that all you get with boredom is boredom. The opening shot (static) lasts about five minutes and within the shot we see a black car do five laps around a road. Then someone gets out of the car and stands. That’s the opening. Then we watch this bored actor in his room at the Chateau Marmont on Sunset Blvd. Twins are giving him a private pole dance. We get the entire pole dance. The bored actor falls asleep during the twins’ pole dance and I empathized totally. Then we get a scene where the bored actor sits at a cafĂ© table, bored. Then we get a party scene where the bored actor falls asleep before he can make it with a girl. Then there’s another pole dance with the twins. Then the PLOT kicks in when the bored actor’s pre-teen daughter arrives. He takes her ice-skating. We watch quite a bit of her ice-skating. Quite a bit. Then he takes her back to her mothers’ house. I stopped there, but as you might imagine I am waiting on pins and needles to see where this exciting film goes next. Perhaps we can have another three-minute shot where the bored actor looks in the mirror and then takes a pill. That was a roof-raiser, let me tell you.

I then listened to a potential upcoming release and I was entranced by it so we’ll be doing it – it will be the third Kritzerland release for the composer. I’ve never seen the film and I was really worried about how I was going to figure out what cue went where. This film has never been released on video, DVD, or anything else here. But I was relentless in my searching and I finally found a French DVD release – and it’s winging its way to me shortly.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get my beauty sleep so that I can continue to be a busy little BK.

Today, I’m having a little meeting with my pal Miss Barbara Deutsch. After that, I have many errands and whatnot to do, hopefully some packages to pick up as well as an important envelope, then I’ll eat something light but amusing, jog, write the blurbs for our two releases, and then hopefully I can finish watching Somewhere and get to another film on the big pile. I’ll also probably get another upcoming project to listen to, as well.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye will be here, so I’ll be out for a bit – I have to deliver a box o’ CDs to a local dealer, and then when I return I have to get everything prepped for our eBlast, and then I’m not sure what the rest of the day and evening will bring. Sunday I’m attending an Easter dinner.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the rhumba, because today is the birthday of our very own beloved and floop-loving dear reader Sandra. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own beloved and floop-loving dear reader Sandra. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN BELOVED AND FLOOP-LOVING DEAR READER SANDRA!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, eat, jog, write blurbs and watch motion pictures. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, too many CDs, including several upcoming Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, Somewhere, then Sherlock Holmes movies, and an anime series that’s supposed to be great. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall awaken and be a busy little BK.
