DANCING PASTRIES RUN AMOK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, Black Sunday has become the fastest Kritzerland sellout – announced at six-thirty in the morning and gone by one-thirty in the afternoon, at least at the Kritzerland site. It’s still available at some online dealers, but I can’t imagine it will be for too much longer. Most of our orders were, in fact, from dealers, so I won’t actually see that money for some time, but we needed a quick sellout and we got one. It’s pretty amusing – there is now a feeding frenzy for Les Baxter horror scores – every single one that’s available has been snapped up by other labels. How they missed Black Sunday I’ll never know. I did manage to get around six hours of sleep, but I was still very tired and remained very tired throughout the day and evening. I spent lots of time printing out orders, and also the Pirates CDs came in and we shipped out all that we had boxes for – our new supply of boxes arrives today and the rest will go out by the end of the day. All the big dealer orders shipped and most of the US single orders shipped. After that, I had to mosey on over to Hugo’s in West Hollywood, where I lunched with my pal Lauren Rubin. She’ll be doing one of our Gardenia shows soon. I had Pasta Victor – it was heavy but great. After that, I headed back to the San Fernando Valley and picked up no packages. Then I printed more orders, began the final proofing of the book (I’m basically just making sure all the corrections we entered didn’t somehow screw anything else up – so I go back and forth between the red-marked corrected copy and the new printout. That will probably take me till Wednesday, and then I hope the book can go to the publisher on Thursday or Friday.

Then The Singer arrived and we went to the home environment of Mr. Ron Abel. Only a handful of the charts have actually been put into final form, so he was fumfering with the other charts – John Boswell could read those because we worked on them for weeks and he had his own little shorthand notes. But they were mostly an enigma for Ron, but we managed to play through everything, and he’s now got a CD and DVD of the show.

Then I came back home, had some red licorice, and did a lot of work on the computer, mostly having to do with finding upcoming projects for Kritzerland.

I’d started watching a motion picture on DVD entitled The Night Digger, starring Miss Patricia Neal and written by her then-husband Roald Dahl. It’s not great, but I’m only thirty minutes in. I’d never seen it and it does have some nice atmosphere and I do love Miss Neal. Best of all, it has a great score by Bernard Herrmann. I’ll try to finish it today, so I can keep slogging away at the large pile of motion pictures I need to watch.

In other news, I believe that today Warner Archive announces a new release and one I will snap up immediately – Ken Russell’s grand and gloriously weird film of The Boy Friend, which I truly love. I truly love everything about it, but most especially love Twiggy, the choreography, the brilliant sets of Tony Walton, and the incredible arrangements and orchestrations by Peter Maxwell Davies. I’m hoping the transfer looks good and I have heard it will be the long version of the film.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get to bed and get some semblance of a beauty sleep.

Today, I shall try to get up no earlier than nine. Then we’ve got more packages to ship as soon as the boxes arrive, and then I’m having lunch with our very own favorite choreographer, Mr. Adam Cates. I haven’t seen him in a while, so it will be fun to catch up. The helper may join us toward the end of our meal – she’s a dancer and I know she’d enjoy talking to Adam. After that, I will hopefully pick up a few packages, I will do some errands and whatnot, and then I must relax and finish The Night Digger, and then dig into another motion picture.

Tomorrow, I’m having lunch with a singer person I know, and I have a lot of other stuff to attend to. Thursday is lunch with dear reader Jeanne (this is literally a week with a lunch every day), and Friday may be a work session with the twelve-year-old. I also have to finish casting and choosing songs for the next Gardenia show – I’m a little behind in that regard.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship packages, lunch, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up packages, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Yesterday, we had posted on our discussion board a wonderful photograph of chocolate and cherry scones – they looked absolutely yummilicious. So, what are your all-time favorite pastries, and what are the best pastries you’ve ever eaten and where did they come from? And what pastries do you make yourself? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream happy dreams of dancing pastries run amok.
