THE DAY THAT GOT AWAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, some days just get away from you. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, some days just get away from you. Yesterday was such a day – it just go away from me and when I saw it happening I immediately launched into “You’ll Never Get Away From Me” and yet the damn day just got away from me. Judy Garland sang “The Man That Got Away” – I sang “The Day That Got Away.” The first hour of the morning was a little irritating, having to do with another soundtrack label doing something that some people were put off by and which some people applauded – I thought they’d basically just shot themselves in the foot and caused themselves credibility issues, but, not surprisingly, there was much support as well as the non-supporters. But as the day went along, the pronouncements began to waver, and there was a full order of waffle, and finally new meaning given to the word back-pedaling. It was, at times, amusing to watch. After glutting the market time and again to go down this road seemed the height of something or other. They basically said they were no longer doing limited editions – only they are, but not really and yet really. It was enough to cause one’s head to do a full Linda Blair several times over. I relieved myself of said irritation by doing the four-mile jog. Once that was done I realized I had to eat because there would be no time do so later in the day. So, I had a sandwich and no fries, then picked up one little envelope and two little packages, neither package one of the errant and truant ones I’ve been expecting. Also a no-show was the replacement debit card from Paypal – I found it it was sent last Wednesday – thank you USPS for your timely service. Is it any wonder that they’re on their last legs? Then I had to give the absolute final approval to the Nudie Musical blu-ray disc and packaging, which I did. That was actually a little scary because now it’s all on its way to get pressed and it’s all final now and I just have to hope that everyone will be pleased with what we’ve done. I’m very happy with the authoring place – they just did a great job and were very easy to work with.

Then I printed out the Gardenia commentary, had some telephonic conversations, answered e-mails, had a strongly worded chat with Constant Contact and then, somehow, it was time for our stumble-through rehearsal. That’s almost always my favorite part of these Gardenia shows – everyone in my living room performing for each other – it’s just a great feeling of support and camaraderie. Everyone did a great job and, shockingly, we only had one teeny-tiny lyric flub. This group is VERY prepared and it’s really fun to have an all-gal cast. And those Frank Loesser songs – amazingly amazing every one.

After that, I went to Gelson’s and got a small halibut filet and some apples. I baked the halibut and it was very tasty – and only about three hundred calories. I had a couple of apples for dessert. I never had time to sit on my couch like so much fish, as I had yet more work to do on the computer, including listening to the master of the title that we announce after the title we’re announcing on Monday. And that was how the day got away from me.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get some beauty sleep so I’m bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for tonight’s show.

Today, I shall arise and do the four-mile jog as soon as I can. Then the editor of the web series will pick up the hard drive so he’ll have all the footage. Then I have many errands and whatnot to do, including some banking, hopefully I’ll pick up some errant and truant packages and most importantly the errant and truant replacement debit card. Then we have a sound check at five, after which I’ll go have a little salad at Pomodoro, after which it’s show time at the Gardenia. Some of us will probably go out after, too.

Tomorrow and Friday are both busy with meetings, meals, and hopefully seeing a rough cut of the two New York, New York episodes of the web series. I also have to settle on a release date for Nudie (mid-October) and a premiere date for the web series (probably early November, as long as we have three episodes ready to go). I also have a work session with Alet and John for the October Gardenia show – which is just Alet doing A Broadway Love Story. Many keys are going to have to be adjusted so we want to get all that done so Alet has plenty of time to get this in her body. Not sure what’s happening on the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, I must give the editor a hard drive, I must do errands and whatnot and hopefully pick up errant and truant packages and debit card, I must have a sound check and I must do the one-year anniversary of Kritzerland at the Gardenia. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where sleep will hopefully not get away from me.
