MY KIND OF TOWN – LOS ANGELES IS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, my second day of the Ray Courts show was, in a way, more fun than the first. It was much less busy, so everyone in the room was looser and I got to have nice chats with Diane Baker, Barry Bostwick, Millie Perkins, as well as the continual irreverent joking with Bridget Hanley and Druxy. I had a half slice of Chicago deep dish pizza – something I never need to have again – too thick and gooey for my taste. I sold a few more books, no Blu and Rays (which surprised me, but given the general age of the attendees, my guess is that few of them actually had Blu and Ray players), and a couple of photos. I actually made more at this show than I usually do, so that was good. At the end of the day, Henry Winkler came in our room and went table to table saying hello to everyone, which was very gracious of him. When he got to me we had a really nice and fun chat. I met quite a few nice people, plus show regular Beth Stetler and I had our usual nice chats during the show. I met her quite some time ago, back when the Courts show had just switched over to Burbank – she hung out with Nick and I. I packed up around three-thirty, then took my box o’ stuff to the front desk and arranged for them to ship it back to me via three-day Fed Ex.

After that, I met Cindy and our writer pal Bo Kaprall for dinner. We spent several hours just talking about ideas for the show – stuff they’d already outlined, stuff that we felt could be added and subtracted, mostly just trying to get a feel for what Cindy would be comfortable with and what kind of structure and point of view will have. It was really fun and the food was, as it has been, quite good – this time I only had a chicken Caesar and some garlic parmesan french fries. Druxy hung out with us until his transportation arrived.

After we wrapped our session I went back to my room. I was so sore from the two nights’ worth of treadmill that I thought I’d just skip it, but I’m kind of in my maniacal weight loss phase so, in the end, I went to the gym and did about 5.3 miles at full speed, burning close to 550 calories. I’m thinking either I maintained while I was here (given the healthy amounts of food) or I lost – but I’m quite sure I did not gain even a half-pound. But my poor feet and legs are so sore I can barely move.

After that, I came back to the room. I’d forgotten to get a bottle of water, so I took a drink of tap water and almost vomited on the ground, so foul-tasting was it. So, I called the front desk and they brought me up a nice bottle of water.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must be up at four-fifteen, which means I’m only going to get but a few hours of beauty sleep before going to the airport and being on my way back to my kind of town – Los Angeles is.

Today, I shall be up at four-fifteen and hopefully to the airport by five, after which I shall be on my way back to Los Angeles, California – my kind of town. So, please send very strong and excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time trip home. Once home, I shall catch up on things, do a four-mile jog, do errands and whatnot, do banking, pick up packages and mail, have a quick rehearsal with Alet and eat something light but amusing.

Tomorrow, we have our stumble-through, then Wednesday is sound check and show. The rest of the week is filled with meetings, meals, and prepping our next shoot and the next Kritzerland release.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Frug, for today is the birthday of new dear reader Doug R. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to new dear reader Doug R. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO NEW DEAR READER DOUG R!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be on my way home, I must catch up, do errands and whatnot, do a four-mile jog, have a quick rehearsal, and eat something light but amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the unhealthiest food you love to eat and can’t stay away from? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and then be on my way back to Los Angeles – my kind of town. Don’t forget those excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time flight.
