THE SAME OLD SAME OLD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, another day, another rehearsal, another meal, another day of not jogging. In other words, the same old same old. I will state for the record or, at the very least, the CD, that I will do nothing tomorrow until I jog. I simply could not get out of the house in time to jog and still be able to get to the production meeting on time. I had to revise my script again and then print out those pages, and Word and my printer are not happy with each other and Word just quits, just like that and it was getting so annoying that I wanted to slap Word upside the head. I couldn’t, of course, as Word doesn’t have a head. Damn them, damn them all to hell. Has anyone noticed that these here notes are already all over the map? For example, some of these here notes were in Philadelphia, some were in Montreal, two words were in Southeast Asia – see what I mean? Focus. That’s what we need here – focus.

I had a decent night’s sleep, got up, had every intention of doing the four-mile jog, but you know what they say – the best of intentions. Why don’t they ever finish their thoughts – shouldn’t there be an end on “the best of intentions?” Or is there and I’m just forgetting it? Anyway, I spent the morning on the phone with Apple doing an update to Time Capsule, doing some further revisions to the LACC script and printing out those pages, having telephonic calls, and then it was somehow time to go to the production meeting. That lasted not very long, and then I spent a few minutes with the lighting designer, just showing him what the most played areas were and discussing mood and stuff. He’s very talented and I’m sure will bring a lot to the show. I must say, I do love our unit set – it’s simple but it just really works for the staging.

After the meeting, dear reader Jose, Adryan Russ, our stage manager Tony, and I went to Fred 62 Diner on Vermont where we had a yummilicious luncheon. I had a breakfast burrito that was out of this world, which is probably better than being all over the map. It had scrambled eggs, chorizo, cheese and peppers, and was covered in a chipotle sauce that was ever so tasty. I also ordered two flapjacks – they weren’t quite up to classic Du-Par’s (which doesn’t really exist anymore), but they were quite good, and I shared them. There are other things on the menu I want to try so I’ll be going back there.

Rather than do a run-through (we were missing Melody and Lucy anyway) we did detail work on all the numbers, most especially the opening number with Damon and Alet, which has a lot of staging, which they’re finally starting to have fun with. Everybody’s coming along nicely, and the LACC gals continue to get better and stronger with each rehearsal. And we’ve been letting the gal who’ll do the two matinees do the staging, too, so she’s getting used to everything. One of our men will be covering Damon’s track for the three rehearsals he’ll miss next week, so we’ll be able to run the show. Alet and I got to figure out our duet, which is cute and fun. I think once everyone really knows their stuff and really commits to it it’s going to flow very nicely. The songs all work now, so I won’t be changing anything from here on in in terms of songs. If we ever do the show again, I will think about using some material that wasn’t actually on our albums, but for now I think we’ve got a good balance and actually not all the songs ARE from the Lost In Boston and Unsung Musicals series.

The best thing about the rehearsal is that we were all having a lot of irreverent fun, which is exactly what we needed to have. The charts are starting to sound really good, and Jose is working on the more difficult stuff – it’s really hard to play thirty songs in a row and especially off some of these charts – and remembering the tempos and stuff.

After rehearsal I came right home, but this was an atypically late night and I basically only had time to answer e-mails (and certainly not all of them) and catch up on everything. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep so I can awake to more of the same old same old.

Today, I shall be up no later than nine-thirty, and no matter what is going on, I shall be jogging by ten-thirty. I then have to do some banking, and then pick up some packages and maybe an important envelope – I never even got to the mail place yesterday, so I know there’s stuff waiting there, including some packages for Jose. Then I’ll finish my liner notes, get that to the designer, and it looks like the big boy booklet for the cast album (our longest booklet ever at twenty-four pages, and I will NOT be going down that road ever again) may be approved by tomorrow or Monday. That will be a big load off and we can announce next week. I suppose everyone knows what it is by now – The People In The Picture, starring Donna Murphy. Then I’ll be on my way to LACC around five for our six o’clock rehearsal – we’ll probably start the run-through at six-thirty and be done by eight-thirty or nine. And I might just go out afterwards and have a little piece o’ pie or something fun.

Tomorrow we have a two o’clock rehearsal and someone said something about Saturday night, as if I have to do something – can’t remember what and I REALLY hope they’re incorrect because I REALLY don’t want to do anything. And, of course, at midnight I shall put up episode two of Outside The Box. This one guest-stars Brad Oscar and Nikka Graff Lanzarone. Sunday, I have a lot of work to do, and I have to see a club act in the evening – but that’s early and will only last an hour. I REALLY didn’t want to go, but I REALLY have to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog before doing anything else, I must do banking, I must hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, I must eat something light but amusing, I must finish liner notes, and I must attend a rehearsal and perhaps have pie. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, Rapture by Georges Delerue and The Little Prince by Frederic Talgorn. Blu and Ray – My Fair Lady and many others. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall undoubtedly dream of the same old same old.
