WORD SUBSTITUTIONS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and therefore I must awaken early. Therefore without further ado (oda, spelled backwards), may I just tell you an amusing story? In the upcoming Kritzerland show, Melody Hollis is singing Chim Chim Cheree/Feed The Birds, along with two other songs. She likes to type up and print out her lyrics – it helps her when learning them. So, sometimes when her computer doesn’t recognize a word it suggests another word. When she typed in tuppence a bag, the computer didn’t know from tuppence and suggested as a replacement tampons. Now, I don’t know about you, dear readers, but Feed the birds, tampons a bag – well, I rather like it. Poor Melody, in this show she gets to sing the wild and wooly The Dressing Song from The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. She seems to get one of these tongue twisters in every show and her mother tells me that on first hearing Melody has a little breakdown and says she can’t do it. When she shows up for her first rehearsal, she’s letter perfect. Well, our next show is The Ira Gershwin Album and she’s getting Tchaikovsky. This one I played her yesterday and while she was laughing her little chin was quivering. If she can learn and conquer the insanity of Tchaikovsky, then she will be able to learn and conquer anything.

The rehearsal was a bit rough, as first rehearsal always are, but the cast is great, the songs are great, and it’s going to be a very good show. Alet was first, and she rehearsed her three songs, I’ve Gotta Crow (the first track she ever recorded for me), It’s What You Believe In (cut song from Peter Pan), and The Beautiful Land/Pure Imagination. Then came Juliana, who sang Talk To The Animals, Over The Rainbow, and A Happy Working Song, then it was Lauren Rubin who did Candle On The Water, At The Codfish Ball, and Somewhere In My Memory. After that, it was Melody doing The Dressing Song, Family Hour TV Medley, and Chim Chim Cheree/Feed The Birds. Last was Jane Noseworthy who did In My Own Little Corner/Impossible, Never Never Land, and The Rainbow Connection. That’s our basic show, plus I do I’ll Take You Dreaming from The Court Jester, and Richard Sherman will be doing The Chimpanzoo.

Prior to the rehearsal, I’d gotten up too late to jog, did some work on the computer including figuring out the show order, then ate a sandwich and fries, picked up some packages and an important envelope, did some banking, then came home and did the rehearsal. After the rehearsal I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching a motion picture I TIVOd, entitled Best Seller, starring Mr. Brian Dennehy and Mr. James Woods. The script is by the outrĂ© Larry Cohen. I enjoyed it, certainly – the performances from the two leading men are really good. What firmly dates this film in a way that kills it is the awful synth score. If this film had a normal movie score it would seem much fresher today but instead it feels like a relic of a cheesier time.

After the movie, I wrote my contextual commentary, so that’s out of the way, and I also prepped our two new release announcements. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must go try and get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall be up early, I shall jog, I shall then go and eat an early lunch and proof at least one hundred pages, then I shall hopefully pick up some packages, then I’ll return home and do some stuff around the home environment. Then I have a short meeting about our Vitello’s shows, then I will go see our very own Mr. Barry Pearl in a play about Roy Cohn.

Tomorrow, I have this film music thing to go to. I will stay as long as I can keep my energy up and then I shall leave and come home to get ready to announce our two new titles. Next week is very busy, with rehearsals, proofing, announcing, and doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog of some sort, I must eat and proof, I must hopefully pick up packages, I must have a short meeting, I must see a play, and I must come home. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Brian Dennehy and James Woods? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall sing, Feed the birds, tampons a bag.
