MERCURY IN URANUS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we must be having Mercury in retrograde or Pluto in reverse, or Uranus in Uranus because let me tell you yesterday was a day to beat the band and not in a good way – I mean really beating to a pulp a band. So, I’m thinking I heard tell that we’re on the tail end of Mercury in retrograde so might I just make a suggestion to Mercury to get the HELL out of retrograde before I kick your sorry ASS right into Uranus. The first part of yesterday there was no sign of Mercury in retrograde. I got up after eight hours of sleep, did some work on the computer, and then finished choosing songs for the Kritzerland show (I still think I’m one light somehow). I then took music to get Xeroxed whilst I had some lunch with the helper. I had soft food, namely an omelet and cottage cheese. I then picked up the music, came home, did some more work, and then picked up one lonesome package from the mail place. Then I came home, did some more work, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Mid-day, I decided to watch the final Wallander movie in this first box set I have, which contains the first seven films in the series. The next six are on their way to me and that will be the entire first series, after which I’ll dive in to series two, which was shot several years after the first series, only about two years ago. So, I turned the TV on and the player on and went to get a little ice cream to eat whilst watching. While I was spooning out the ice cream the power went off. Yes, just like that, a complete power shut-off. Fifteen seconds later it went back on. I can’t imagine a power outage shutting down the computer is a good thing, but I started it up and it had saved everything, so I guess it was okay. I had to reset two clocks and start the player again. I then watched the seventh Wallander film, which was excellent, although not quite up to the brilliance of what I saw the day before.

Then I had more work to do on the computer, one snippy e-mail to write (it did the trick), and some telephonic conversations. Then I decided to watch last Sunday’s episode of Mad Men. I must say I’m finding this season very dreary and kind of pointless, actually. There are still flashes of what made it unique, but not enough. Mostly it’s devolved into boring soap opera conversations that just go on and on and on. Five minutes before the end of the show – the power went out again, this time staying out. See what I mean about Mercury in retrograde? There were no heavy winds, no rain – but this is the third time in less than a month. I called the DWP and was quite vocal in my displeasure, and apparently I was not alone. The ETA they gave me was for one in the morning. That sent me over the deep end and I insisted on talking to a supervisor. She actually tried to get me some real information, but the field people – wait for it – keep that information to themselves until well after the fact. Brilliant and really good for angry customers. I suggested she tell the field that they perhaps should use something other than bubble gum and spit to fix these problems. I was so irked at the thought of another full evening in the dark that I went and took a drive and visited a local bookstore. After that, I came back home – as I turned into my neighborhood I could see that the lights on houses were on, so that gave me hope, and indeed when I got to my house the lights were on. So, two hours without – better than the five hours at the end of March.

Then I went to print out some music on the printer when suddenly there was a terrible paper jam. I could barely get that wadded paper out of there, but finally did, at which point instead of printing gave me another error message saying I had to “free” the carriage. I had no idea what that meant, so I powered down the machine then restarted and that fixed whatever it was. By that time I looked like I wanted to eat the head of a chicken, so irritated was I. So, I decided to do something I rarely do, eat a second meal – I went over to Jerry’s Deli where, guess what? There were no lights on. They came on as I was being seated – they’d been down for thirty minutes. I had some chicken tenders and they were great and made me feel better. Then I came home and watched a little of Buck Privates starring Abbott and Costello, after which I did some more stuff on the computer.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall do errands and whatnot, I shall hopefully pick up some packages, I shall maybe have a little meeting with a performer/writer, I will make CDRs for the Kritzerland cast to pick up tomorrow, and I will, I’m sure, watch a few things and relax.

Tomorrow, singers will pick up their stuff, I shall eat, and then we have a Melody rehearsal. Saturday I may or may not have a meeting with a writer pal, and I may or may not have a dinner engagement. Sunday is, of course, our book signing. I truly hope we have some people there. After years of people saying Saturday was difficult, we change it to Sunday and they still can’t get there. Ah, well, a Kimmel never forgets such things.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, maybe have a meeting, make CDRs, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Abbott and Costello movies and, with the exception of the Marx Brothers, your favorite other comedy teams. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland after which I shall hopefully awaken to Mercury having wised up and gotten the HELL out of retrograde.
