September 14, 2012:

THAT’S ALWAYS A PLUS IN MY BOOK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, perhaps someone can explain to me how we are in the middle of September already? That just boggles my already boggled mind. Not only that, it’s already Friday. How did that happen? This week and this month are flying by, like a gazelle walking a mile for a Camel. Since it is quite late, I’d better just write these here notes with no going off on tangents, although if a tangent should show up I most certainly shall go off on it. I’m happy to report that yesterday, Thursday, was better than the day before, Wednesday. That’s always a plus in my book (Chapter Three – A Thursday That’s Better Than a Wednesday is a Plus). I got up right at nine and was happy to find no annoying e-mails. That’s always a plus in my book (Chater Six – No Annoying e-mails is a Plus). I answered the e-mails I had, then spent rather a long time on a couple of telephonic calls, in fact they took up the entire morning. That’s always a plus in my book (Chater Eight – Calls That Take Up the Entire Morning Are a Plus). Then I did some work on the computer, after which Juliana arrived and we went to the Bank of Bur and had a working lunch at Granville. I had their yummilicious mac-and-cheese and a teeny-tiny Caesar salad. Juliana read through the revised patter and most of it will work fine. Some of it’s too long and some of it isn’t presenting her in the way it needs to and some of it is still repetitious. We made some notes and that was that. After lunch, we came back to my place, she went on her merry way, and I had to give a CD to someone for an upcoming project that’s very exciting. Then I went and picked up a couple of packages, then came back home. I did more work on the computer, and bandied about some more names for the next Kritzerland show. We have to finish casting in the next day or so or we’ll really fall behind. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Cape Fear. Not the Martin Scorsese version of Cape Fear, which I’m not too fond of, but the original version of Cape Fear starring Mr. Gregory Peck, Mr. Robert Mitchum, and Miss Polly Bergen, along with some terrific character people such as Telly Savalas, Jack Kruschen, and Martin Balsam. But it’s Mr. Mitchum’s picture all the way – his performance is truly great in that he’s completely scary and real and disgusting, one of the great cinema crazy bad guys. Peck is his usual solid self, but Miss Bergen has several really irritating moments in the climax of the film. The script is very good and the direction by J. Lee Thompson, is simple and efficient, just letting his terrific cast do their jobs. One of the best things about the film is the wonderful score of Bernard Herrmann – it really keeps you on the edge of your seat. The transfer on the UK Blu-ray (which is region free) is mostly excellent, with only a little cleaning up on the opticals, which really wasn’t necessary, but they do love to do that sort of thing. But most of it is sharp and crisp and very detailed.

After the movie, I listened to music, did more work on the computer, and lost track of time – by the time I found track of time it was already after midnight. I hate when that happens. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep while the gettin’ is good.

Today, I’m having a breakfast meeting so shall be up early. This was the breakfast meeting that got postponed from last week. We’ll be shipping out a LOT of Strategic Air Command CDs, and, at long last, we finally have The Brain From Planet X and New Guy in Town back in stock. After the breakfast meeting, I will hopefully pick up some packages and an important envelope, I have to pay some Kritzerland bills (they are never ending), and then I’m not sure whether I’ll be going to the Gardenia – we’ll see how I’m feeling.

Tomorrow, I have stuff to do during the day, then I’m seeing a friend’s cabaret show in the evening and after that, if I’m up to it, I’ve been invited to a midnight screening of The Faculty at the New Beverly Theater. Sunday I have a short work session with Juliana, and I know I have something in the afternoon but I haven’t the foggiest what it might be. Next week is very busy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, ship CDs, have a breakfast meeting, hopefully pick up packages and an important envelope, hopefully finish casting and choosing songs and getting sheet music, pay bills, and then maybe go to the Gardenia. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, many Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, not sure what’s up next. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland – that’s always a plus in my book (Chapter Eleven – Hitting the Road to Dreamland is a Big Plus).
