THE DAY I DID NOTHING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I suppose these will be short notes because yesterday was a ME day and I did nothing at all and therefore have little to report, although things did happen and report I shall. I did wake up to a whole slew of Follies orders and I knew something was up and up something was, as there was a weird but rave review at Playbill. At Kritzerland we like to think of Follies as the gift that keeps on giving. I was up way to early, at eight, so I only got about six hours of sleep. There were so many wonderful comments on Facebook about the Kritzerland anniversary show, and you should check out some of the photographs that have been posted. I was pretty much on clouds nine, ten, and eleven all day, despite being tired.

Once up, I prepped the eBlast, then decided to go have my six hundred calorie club sandwich at the Daily Grill. I told them, as always, to go extremely light on the mayo they use and the waiter repeated that to me, but they went very heavy on the mayo and I almost sent it back, but in the end I just scraped all of it off and it was fine. The sandwich was great. I was a bit surprised that they don’t do much of a Sunday brunch business – they serve all kinds of nice brunch items that looked really good. After that, I knew I wasn’t going to eat another meal, so I decided that after the hugely busy last week I deserved a special treat so I was a very bad boy and went to Donut Prince in the Bank of Bur, where I got two donuts and a third donut by mistake (she misheard me). But they weren’t big donuts. I came home and ate the two I’d meant to buy and boy were they good – a crumb donut and a glazed bar with chocolate inside. The mistake donut was a powdered sugar thing with chocolate inside – I had a bite of it but didn’t care for it and by that time I was donuted out. Still and all, with my six hundred calorie sandwich, I still only did about 1400 calories, so not too too bad.

Then I got a wonderful e-mail from Miss Kay Cole, the original Maggie from A Chorus Line. She doesn’t really sing in public anymore, but I bring it up from time to time, and did so at the Kritzerland show, but she just doesn’t seem to have that need anymore. But she’d thought about it and asked if she could sing What I Did For Love and I was all over that in two seconds, so she’s joined our merry troupe and I’m thrilled. We’re also trying to work out a scheduling thing for Jason Graae so he can do a number I would dearly love for him to do. Hopefully that will happen. I don’t really remember much of anything else – I played the piano a little, I played on the Internet a little, and I answered a lot of e-mails, after which I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first forty minutes of a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Harvey, starring Mr. James Stewart. I’ve tried to get on the Harvey parade many times – I’ve watched it on TV, on VHS, on laserdisc, and on DVD. I know I’m supposed to love it, but I just don’t. I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s a little too whimsical for me – I just know that I can’t get with it. I appreciate the wonderful performances, and I think the story is okay, but it’s just not a film I love. Apparently nothing has changed because other than a few chuckles, I felt the same watching it on Blu and Ray. It was okay. What’s better than okay is the transfer from Universal, which looks really good. Maybe someday I’ll love the film as others do.

After that, I played on the computer more, printed out more orders, and that was pretty much it. I told you I didn’t have much to talk about. I warned you I didn’t have much to talk about. And now you know that I didn’t have much to talk about and I just hope there was enough of interest to keep you from either falling asleep or vomiting on the ground. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must be up at six in the morning to announce our new title and must get as much beauty sleep as possible.

Today I shall be up at six in the morning to announce the new Kritzerland title, after which I may or may not go directly back to bed. Ultimately I hope I shall then print out a LOT of orders because it doesn’t get much better than our new Kritzerland title. Then I’ll do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, then have a work session with Juliana Hansen, who’s show is coming up in three short weeks. We have a lot of work to do, but once I’ve gotten the patter pared down and right, she’ll be able to work with a rehearsal CD and get it in her bones, after which we’ll spend a solid week staging and doing the performance detail work. After that, I’m sure I’ll relax.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week will be more meetings and meals, Wednesday night I’m seeing a play at the Falcon Theater, and there’s just a lot of stuff to do, including shipping out Strategic Air Command, hopefully on Tuesday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce our new title, hopefully print out orders, hopefully pick up some packages, have a work session, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Even though we may have done it, I’m now actually choosing songs, so what are your favorite Marvin Hamlisch songs, especially ones you’d like to hear if you were coming to see our Kritzerland show? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and put an end to The Day I Did Nothing.
