THE I’S HAVE IT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I only got six hours of sleep and I am bleary and weary, not necessarily in that order. I. That’s about as coherent as I can be right now. I. I is a very coherent sentence considering I cannot think straight or see straight. Consequently, I am thinking askew and seeing askew. I. I wish I could get beyond the I but that is apparently beyond I. I’ll tell you one thing, the I’s have it in these here notes. What the HELL am I talking about? I need sleep (peels, spelled backwards), and plenty of it. I. Well, perhaps I should take a stab at writing some notes right about now. Would you like to know how I typed that last sentence before correcting it? Well, perhaps I should take a stab at righting some notes write about now. I kid you not and you I not kid.

Yesterday, I got up after six hours of sleep. I was barely up thirty minutes before the helper came by to pick up invoices. I was barely up an hour before Juliana and her musical director came by. Once here, we worked on an arrangement of a recently added song, and smoothed out a couple of other arrangements, and I played her my arrangement of Smile, which came out nicely in its feel. After they left, I decided I was in the mood for Casa Vega – I just wanted some really stellar Mexican food. So, I moseyed on over there and got right in (apparently Sunday lunch is not such a busy time for them). I had my beloved one beef taco and two cheese enchiladas with a little side of guacamole to slather over the enchiladas. I ate no chips, so that was good, and I only ate the rice, not the beans. It was quite filling, but oh so yummilicious. Just classic Mexican food done in the classic way, classically. I.

After that, I picked up no packages, what with it being Sunday and all, so I came home and did a couple of hours work on the October Kritzerland show. I cast our fourth performer, a VERY talented friend of Juliana named Angel Reda, who played Elphaba on one of the Wicked tours – in fact, she did it here at the Pantages here in LA. Really good voice and just what I was looking for. So, we have one female to go – the person we want may be out of town, but we’ll settle on someone today. I also began gathering sheet music, some of which came via e-mail – the rest will come today. I also loaded music into iTunes for sending to singers. I’ve narrowed the song list down to sixteen for now. So, it’s finally coming together and everyone will have just under three weeks with their material, so that’s plenty. After all that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

I began watching a motion picture that I TIVOd, an HD broadcast of the Budd Boetticher/Randolph Scott western, Seven Men From Now, a film I really like a lot. I was so tired I fell asleep immediately for thirty minutes. Then I rewound and started again. I got about halfway through. I just love these Randolph Scott westerns – he’s such a unique presence. And this one has an especially good supporting cast, including Lee Marvin. The HD is not really HD, at least it doesn’t look like it, it looks like an upconverted DVD.

Otherwise, I just listened to music and did stuff on the computer until I could do no more. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I. I. I must really get a good night’s beauty sleep, that’s what I must do. I.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. I then will do more stuff for the Kritzerland show, then I have a noon lunch at Mo’s. After that, I have errands and whatnot to do, hopefully some packages to pick up, and then some liner notes to attend to. But the show I thought I was seeing in the evening is, in fact, not till next Monday night, so I can relax and stay in.

Tomorrow, we start comping vocals and finessing mixes, and that will keep going each night this week. On Thursday, I’m seeing The Master in 70mm at the Cinerama Dome. I really like being able to go online, purchase the ticket and choose the seat. No muss, no fuss and no fuss, no muss. We’ll also be setting shoot dates for the first three season two Outside the Box episodes, and I have one of those three left to cast, although I have to replace a gal from one of the other two, but I know who I want so that will be easy. We have our camera crew and I’ll lock in our sound person this week. I still have to get the piano playback tracks done for one of the episodes – the others are already done. It will be great to finally do these – we should have done them back in March, but it’s truly been a very busy year, one of the busiest for me in the last decade. And that’s a good thing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a lunch, hopefully pick up packages, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What was the first record player you ever owned? What brand, how did you like it? What was the first transistor radio you owned? And what was the first television you owned, and what was the first VCR you owned? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy knowing that the I’s have it. I.
