A DAY IN THE LIFE OF BK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I got sidetracked and now it is after midnight and I’m letting it all hang out, which is frightening, and now I must write these notes in a hurry with no time to waste. And frankly, I don’t even have that much to write about, as yesterday was a pretty uneventful day in the life of BK.

The day in the life of BK began at night when I woke up. I was lazy and stayed in bed till ten, then got up, answered e-mails and then moseyed on over to the California Pizza Kitchen for the 600 calorie cedar plank salmon and a post mortem on the singer’s show. We discussed each number, talked about the strengths and what worked and didn’t, and then discussed a timeline to have a complete act ready – we decided on summer. So, she and Shelly Markham will work up some new material for me to hear and I’ll also offer some suggestions. After the lunch, I did some banking, picked up no packages, and then came home. I proofed two chapters then did some work on the computer. One little irritant was that I used the California Pizza Kitchen in the new book and talked about one dish specifically. Guess what? It’s not on the menu anymore. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, they have once again taken an extremely popular dish off the menu, in this case the roasted garlic chicken pizza. So, I have to come up with an alternate dish to talk about whose name will work in the same way that roasted garlic chicken pizza works. I then got the final packaging on our next release, which we’ve gotten ready really quickly. Then I sent that off for approval.

Then I went to Jerry’s Deli and had a bagel and a chopped salad, which was another four hundred calories, making my total for the day 1000, which is what I’m trying to stick to for the next few weeks, somewhere between 1000 and 1200. Whilst there, I proofed two more chapters, so I’m moving right along. I’m not finding too many typos, and I’m just smoothing out a few things, in terms of grammar and punctuation. Then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Rising Sun, a motion picture based on the novel by Michael Crichton. I never read the novel, but from what I’m told it’s ever so much better than the motion picture. I’ve now seen this film three times. It has things I like and things I don’t like. It’s not that well written, the direction is the usual fussy thing that Philip Kaufman does, but the actors are good and the story is fun, and probably could have been better with a better screenplay. Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes star and give excellent performances. It’s not hard to get ahead of the mystery, thanks to the screenplay and the way the film is shot – I’m sure all that works much better in the book, but it’s entertaining in its way, and it does have a really wonderful and moody score by the great Japanese composer, Toru Takemitsu. The transfer seems okay.

After that, I got sidetracked looking up things on the Internet – it happens sometimes and I just lose track of time and time loses track of me. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, we have our very long rehearsal day, from one till seven, I think. We have two breaks during the day – it was really the only way we could work out the schedule, due to some of our cast having other commitments at the times that would have made this schedule like our usual schedules – about two-and-a-half hours. I’m sure the musical director and I will go have lunch on one of the breaks. Also on the second break, I’ll go hopefully pick up some packages. After the rehearsal, I’ll definitely watch a motion picture of some sort.

Tomorrow I’m meeting our very own Jason Graae for a light luncheon. Other than that, it’s proofing, since I won’t really have a chance to do much today. Thursday I may try to get a haircut and Friday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal. Saturday is mine all mine, Sunday is our stumble-through, and Monday is video and sound check and then the show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a long rehearsal, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, maybe get a little proofing done, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are you favorite Sean Connery films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I hit the road to dreamland as a day in the life of BK comes to an end and a new day in the life of BK begins.
