BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m pretty much over this thing, at least that’s the hope, but there’s still a surprising amount of mucous still breaking up and apparently the mucus’s favorite song is Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. Hoping that by tomorrow I will be fine and fancy free, just in time to enjoy a spectacular luncheon at Langer’s. Of course, happily, today is a holiday – no mail, no banks, so I get to spend one final day relaxing and getting totally back to normal, which is good. I spent Sunday doing just that. I got up at around nine after ten hours of blessed sleep. Then I downloaded some tracks so I could listen to what will become the second half of an upcoming CD release – really good stuff. Then I went to Gelson’s to get some food, but the deli had about thirty people waiting so I just left. I’d seen two parking spaces in front of Four and Twenty Pies but by the time I’d turned left to take one of them, both were gone. That irritated me no end so I drove over to Jerry’s Deli on the off chance I might get in. And I did – in fact, it was surprisingly not crowded for a Sunday at noon. But I’ve really kind of overdosed this week – every single day there, just because I needed the chicken soup. So, this week, my intention is to not eat there at all. I had an omelet, a bagel, a side of bacon, and it was all fine.

Then I came home and began writing the contextual commentary for the next Kritzerland show. I wrote the opening and the second part, and then had to stop to figure out the show order. Before I continue writing, I have to make sure the show order feels good to me, so I’ll look at it again today, and then mush on. I had a couple of telephonic conversations and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Gentleman’s Agreement, starring Mr. Gregory Peck, Miss Dorothy Maguire, Miss Celeste Holm, and Mr. John Garfield. It’s a terrifically made film (directed by Elia Kazan) that suffers only from a small amount of speechifying and repetition. But the cast is splendid, especially Miss Holm, who is absolutely wonderful. It’s hard to imagine that in the year of my birth that there was such anti-Semitism going on, but there was, and it didn’t get better for at least a decade. I suppose it’s still there, just as its there for other races and religions – certain people’s intolerance is truly nauseating and one can only hope they get the Karma that is surely going to come to them. The transfer was, like Laura, not the greatest black-and-white transfer ever done, but it’s fine.

After that, I posted the Facebook event page for the Kritzerland show and also sent out the eBlast. Then I took a nice hot shower and listened to yet more music. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must try for another good night’s beauty sleep. Oh, I forgot to mention, that I went the entire day without taking any of my medicines and that felt really good.

Today, I do have to write more commentary, I do have a couple of errands and whatnot to do, otherwise I’ll just have a nice meal somewhere, perhaps pick up a UPS package (no regular mail), and relax and watch something fun, which won’t be the recently broadcast Live from Lincoln Center evening of Kander and Ebb. Let’s just say that not everyone is adept at putting together these kinds of evenings – they are not easy and this one I had to give up on after only thirty minutes – it was just not compelling and I found the entire thirty minutes I watched totally awkward in every way.

Tomorrow I have a lunch with Barry Pearl, Nick Santa Maria (he was the lead leper in the Ben-Hur Outside the Box episode), and Alet Taylor – it should be quite a fun and wild and wooly lunch. Then I have writing to do and lots of stuff to catch up on, and the rest of the week is similar, with meetings, meals and maybe even something to see.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up a package, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: When you were a kid and had a sore throat or cough, what was your all-time favorite cough drop – brand, flavor, etc. I was rather fond of Luden’s, as I recall. And what hard candies did you like? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where hopefully the last of the mucus will finally break up and be gone.
