I’VE GOT IT BAD AND THAT AIN’T GOOD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I got it bad and that ain’t good. I’m still fighting, I’m still here, and I’m hoping I’ve had the worst of whatever someone was kind enough to give me. I had another completely sleepless night – maybe I got three or four hours in there somewhere, mostly due to the rough throat. It’s hard to get better and fight when you get no sleep. I finally got out of bed around ten-thirty, and by eleven thirty was at Jerry’s Deli having chicken soup, a bagel, and matzo brei. I picked up one inconsequential package, then came home. I then proceeded to get all the singers their mp3s, so they can at least become familiar with the songs. I also spent about an hour doing tiny little lyric updates to Billy Barnes’ song LA Is – few of the original lyrics work, but he updated them in the late 1970s and some of those are still fine, and then again in the late 1990s and by combining all and then just substituting names of restaurants and stores, it all worked out well, and I even got in a joke about The Federal, which Billy absolutely would have done had he played there.

Then I just did some work on the computer, then got the news that we finally are fully cast – and it’s a wonderful cast for the next Kritzerland show: Susanne Blakeslee, Chelsea Emma Franko, Caitlynne Medreck, Jane Noseworthy and Robert Yacko, with our very special guest stars, Nancy Dussault and JoAnne Worley. I was quite stuffed up the entire day and very logey. At some point, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Man Who Knew Too Much, the original 1930s version. I know that some Hitchcock purists and aficionados prefer the early version, and I like it, but for me it doesn’t come close to the 1956 version. It was fun to see it again – I don’t think I’ve seen it in some thirty years. The transfer on the Criterion Blu and Ray is very nice.

Then I went to Gelson’s and got some more chicken soup and some NyQuil. I came home, looked at a potential cover for our next release, paid some bills, had some telephonic conversations, and then took a hot shower. Then I decided to write these here notes early so I could get them posted and get to bed early – taking various pills, Afrin, the NyQuil, and that ought to dope me up but good so that when I arise I hope I shall be on the road to saying I’ve got it good and that ain’t bad, which is much preferable to I’ve got it bad and that ain’t good. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as I possibly can.

Today I must be up by eight to take possession of CDs. Then I have to deal with getting the six big boxes over to the UPS Store. When the helper is done with her stupid jury duty then she’ll get everything else shipped out. She’s all prepared, so it’s just putting the CDs in the boxes and getting it all to the post office, hopefully before they close. I’m supposed to have a short meeting with a film director whose wonderful 1970s film we’re putting out the soundtrack for – its first release. Then I’ll probably have more chicken soup and I just have to continue to take it easy and get this all out of my system. Hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, too.

Tomorrow, if I’m really better, I’m supposed to go see You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown out at Cabrillo. But if I’m not, I’ll bail. Otherwise, I’m just staying home and resting and getting back to being well. So, the only other plan right now is seeing a show on Saturday night.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, take possession of CDs, I must ship the big boxes, I must have a meeting, I must eat, and I must continue to get better. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that I will awaken and not have to say I’ve got it bad and that ain’t good.
