Well, dear readers, as Chester A. Riley was wont to say, “What a revoltin’ development this is.” The revoltin’ development happened yesterday at approximately 9:45 in the morning. I’d gotten up at eight to let the workers in, then just decided to get back in bed and play on the iPad for an hour or so. I was absolutely fine. But when I got out of bed at 9:45 I was suddenly hit with a wave of nausea. A big wave of nausea. It looked something like this.
And this big wave of nausea has till not abated and it is now late at night. I’m quite certain I have what is known as a case of food poisoning. And it has to be from Gelson’s because prior to that I’d only eaten a turkey sandwich, and I don’t think it was that. But at eight the previous evening I’d had shrimp sushi thing on rice and a small thing of bow tie pasta and chicken – cold. I suspect it was the latter, or maybe it was the shrimp – one never knows how long anything has been sitting in their deli counter. I couldn’t lie down in the bedroom, so instead I went in the book room and lay down on the couch there. I immediately fell asleep for ninety minutes, but was just as nauseous when I got on my feet.
I did a few things on the computer, but I just felt yucky. I picked up one package and had several more lie-downs on the book room couch – each time I snoozed and that was good. I finally went out and bought some 7-Up and Saltines, but although I actually took two Saltines out of the package I have yet to bring myself to be able to eat them. I’ve had a couple of sips of the 7-Up. At about seven, I thought I was actually going to vomit on the ground for the first time in years and years – but all I could do was dry heave and that I did for several minutes. I suppose there was nothing in me to actually come out. I feel pretty close to doing that again right now. Actually, I just did do that right now, another five minutes of awful dry heaving. Yuckilicious. I did feel a bit better after the first dry heaving incident, but it didn’t last long. All I could do was sit on my couch like so much fish and watch a motion picture.
Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled The Chapman Report. Believe it or not, I’d never seen it. In fact, I probably never WOULD have seen it had someone not presented me with it. The cast of ladies is, of course, pretty terrific, what with Jane Fonda, Claire Bloom, Shelly Winters and Glynis Johns. The men in their lives are all good character actors. The director is George Cukor and the man made some pretty great films, so it’s more than a little baffling just how awful The Chapman Report is. It’s not that it’s dated, which it is, but I have no problem with context, it’s that the writing is just awful, Mr. Cukor is not at his finest (not that anyone could do much with the script) and the poor actors are left in the lurch, especially Miss Bloom who has the worst of it. Miss Winters is actually quite good, Miss Fonda hadn’t quite found her acting chops yet, and Miss Johns practically walks away with the picture, as silly as her role is. The transfer isn’t all that, but there’s one compelling reason to own it, and that is some wonderful location shots of Pacific Ocean Park – those alone make it worthwhile.
I hate food poisoning and when I get it all I really want to do is go to the place that gave it to me and throw up there. Well, hopefully by the time I awaken I’ll be over the worst of it – please send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for me to be over this completely by today. In the meantime, here’s another Brain song in French – this one The Brain Tap.
Now, I normally don’t allow any of our Kritzerland shows to be taped, but occasionally I give someone permission to tape one number – as I did Sunday with Sami Staitman’s mom. So, we have a rare video from one of our shows and I’m happy to share it with you because it does have my favorite joke within the song. Here’s Sami Staitman doing Noel Coward’s delightfully daft Any Little Fish.
Wasn’t that delightfully daft? Every time I get to this point in these here notes I start to type about clicking on the Unseemly Button below only there’s no Unseemly Button below so it’s a lesson in futility. Have you ever had a lesson in futility? I have, and frankly the lesson was futile.
Our tech continues his work doing the final things on the site. The latest addition is we have our animated smileys back for those who like their smileys animated.
Today, I shall hopefully awaken feeling better – another day of this I really don’t need or want. Obviously I did not jog yesterday (first time missing a day in three months – I probably needed the break), and I probably won’t today no matter how I’m feeling. Hopefully I’ll pick up some packages and then I’ll get singers their music – we’re fully cast now. We have Chelsea Emma Franko, Tessa Grady (Don Grady’s uber-talented daughter and the gal who’s recording the Hofstetter books), Kevin Odekirk (new to us, but a very talented singer), Barry Pearl, and Jenna Rosen (she’s stepping up to the plate and doing her first Kritzerland show as a regular, rather than just one number), along with our guest star, Tony Tanner. Other than that, I’m just resting.
Tomorrow I won’t know about until I know how I’m faring today, and Friday I think I have some meeting or something. Saturday is the book signing and I definitely have to be completely recovered for that.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, hopefully feel better, get singers their stuff, hopefully pick up some packages, eat something if I can bear to, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall hopefully arise being done with the dastardly case of food poisoning.
