NIPS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry because I am very tired from not enough sleep and a very long day’s journey into a very long night.  Because I’m somewhat in book mode, I woke up at five, thinking of characters and possible names – it happens often when I’m in book mode.  So, I let my brain do its work and then I fell back asleep at around six and slept until about nine-thirty so I think I got about seven hours of sleep somehow, although it didn’t really feel like it.  Once up, I did my morning ablutions, after which I did stuff on the computer.  I had several telephonic conversations about this and about that and also about that and about this.  I know I did some other things because suddenly it was time to mosey on over to Mo’s for a meeting.

The lunch meeting was a ton of fun, mostly due to the person I lunched with being a positive person and a ton of fun.  I had a small piece of pan-seared salmon and some green beans – very low in calories, about 300 to be exact.  By that point, I knew that doing a jog was not going to happen because there was just too much to do.  The meeting lasted about ninety minutes, and then I picked up some packages and came home.  Right away I got a call telling me we had to move a project on the extreme fast track, so I spent the rest of the afternoon doing an edit road map for the second of the two scores that comprise the project.  The first score has been mixed (by John Adams) since June, but somehow he’s never had the time to have me come and finesse it – it was a complicated project and I think for some reason he thinks the next step will be hard – but it won’t be – it’s just finessing.  He’s been out of town for an entire month, which is very bad (we should have done this four weeks ago), but he’s back on the September 30 and I told him we had to meet that night or the night after to get this thing wrapped up.  Once that’s done, we should be able to generate a master in a week or so.  I’ll have to write the liner notes this weekend and get all the packaging stuff ready.  As long as it gets turned in for approval by October 10 we should be able to have it announced two weeks later, which is what we need to do.

I then listened to some interesting and fun pre-records from a film musical that is a favorite of mine.  They were very interesting, as there was stuff that didn’t make the final film, as well as some dance tracks (including a nine-minute ballet) that was shot to just drums and piano.  I then got word we had to do a couple of adjustments to a master and its attendant booklet – that was easy and got done in just a few minutes.  And then it was surprisingly time to go to the evening meeting at The Smoke House.

Since I hadn’t jogged, I knew I wasn’t going to be eating a full meal.  I did have three pieces of garlic cheese bread, and that was the only really caloric thing I had – in addition to that I had a shrimp cocktail (nothing), a small cup of clam chowder (about 200 calories tops), and then a grilled artichoke (basically nothing).  So, really, about eight hundred calories tops, although I really felt full after eating it all.  I had some strawberries for dessert so I think I was fine in terms of caloric intake for the day.

There were four of us at the meeting – the co-producers of the benefit, and a gal who handles comic talent and other performers, whose being very helpful.  Juliana and I had had that epic telephonic call the other day and that was really the purpose of the meeting – most importantly to define exactly what kind of host we want for the show and what their function will be.  I had what I think was a brilliant idea for host, and I must say the response to it was very positive, and so we’re going to reach out to that person to see if we can make it happen.  We talked about comics, and a few other kinds of acts I’d like for the show, and we discussed lots of other stuff, too.  And boy did we laugh.  It’s a good team and I think we’ll all make something special out of this very worthwhile benefit for ALS.

We were there for over two hours, and then I came directly home and caught up on e-mail, telephonic messages, and other stuff.  Oh, and I had four Nips.  Yes, Virginia, I, BK, have been on a Nips kick.  I saw them in Gelson’s and they sounded like good sucking candy – I love good sucking candy because they last a while and are fun.  The box promised “Rich & Creamy hard candy with a Soft, Chewy Center.  The kind I bought was Peanut Butter Parfait.  They are thirty calories per piece and they are really excellent.  I suppose there are other ways to spin Nips because, after all, spin is Nips spelled backwards.

Today, I will hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep.  I was hoping to get some relaxing done, but I really have to buckle down, Winsocki and get the liner notes for the fast track CD going and maybe even finished.  That would be really good, actually.  I have no real plans other than to definitely do a jog, definitely eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and do some errands and whatnot.  After all that, I’m sure I will watch the new Francois Ozon movie.

Tomorrow, I’m seeing Little Shop of Horrors, eating beforehand, and going out after.  Sunday, I have some writing to do, but mostly I’m hoping to relax and recharge so I’m ready for the extremely busy week ahead, filled with Kritzerland rehearsals, meetings, meals, and getting a jump on the November Kritzerland show by gathering up the music.  We only have one performer to cast, and hopefully we’ll do that by Monday or Tuesday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, eat, write liner notes, hopefully pick up some packages, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, too many to name.  Blu and Ray, the new Francois Ozon movie and then Plunder Road.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after I have one more Nips with peanut butter filling.
