PHASE ONE AND TWO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m going to write these here notes in two phases.  Phase one is right now.  Phase two will be in the morning.  Why am I in the two phase phase?  I received an e-mail that our web host is doing some maintenance this evening from midnight to four, maintenance that will help the problems had on Sunday not to occur.  During the maintenance the site may or may not be down, so I want to get phase one posted and then I can do phase two in the morning.

I just cut and pasted the first paragraph into the form and I’ll just keep writing as long as the form is working.  On with phase one.  Yesterday was kind of a day.  I got up at ten after eight hours of sleep, but stayed in bed until eleven for reasons that are eluding me.  Once up, I answered e-mails, and then I began writing the third set of liner notes.  At some point I took a break and went to the mail place, where I picked up mail and a couple of packages.  When I returned I wrote more of the liner notes and got two-thirds of the way through.  Then Sami Staitman and her mom came by, and I spent some time working with Sami on her three solos, but mostly the first two.  Then we went and ate at Gyu Kaku – I don’t even know what I’m eating there, but it was pretty okay.  We left there about five-thirty and I took Beverly Glen, which was actually moving along just fine.  The only real slowdown was Overland, and only for the first couple of miles.  I got to the theater a little before six-twenty.

First we had a costume parade, made some decisions and then finally began the run-through with lights and costumes at around eight-thirty.  It was a bit of an odd run-through – I think having lights and costumes was a have to get used to it thing, so the energy was a bit low as were the vocal levels, but that’s to be expected.  We’ve never had a proper tech, so our wonderful stage manager was flying blind.  After the run, we gave several general lighting notes and I’m sure tonight will be better in that regard.  We’re going to add one thing to the middle of the show – it was a suggestion and while it wasn’t for a specific place I think I found where it would not only work but actually help a transition I haven’t been that happy with.  So, we’ll give that a whirl – it’s nothing anyone has to learn anew – just a reprise. The lovely thing that’s been happening is the bonding between the cast members – that’s what’s going to make this show into something beautiful and it’s fun to watch it growing.

After that, I came home and found the e-mail that I should think about phase one and phase two.

Today, I shall be up early and then I have an eleven-thirty lunch meeting with a singer to talk about a cabaret act she wants to do.  Since I like the singer very much I’m sure it will be a lovelier than lovely lunch.  After that, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then I’ll mosey on over to the theater for our dress rehearsal.  Before we start, we’ll run some stuff to get our bearings and energy back, and we’ll also run a handful of light cues, and we’ll put in the reprise to see how it feels.  I’m making one tiny staging change and that has to have a new light cue written, so we’ll do that, too.

Tomorrow is also a dress rehearsal, then we’ll have people in on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.  Friday is also our first Kritzerland rehearsal, and I’ll hopefully have just enough time to get to the theater for the performance.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finish liner notes, have a lunch meeting, hopefully pick up packages, and have a dress rehearsal.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having finished phase one and two at the very same time.  Who knew?
