THE PATH TO PITH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and I must get as much beauty sleep as I can.  I shall try to be as pithy as possible but I’m not at all certain that pithiness is possible, although I shall attempt to be on the path to pith.  Heaven knows, we haven’t had any pith thus far.

Yesterday was a very pithy day.  I was up at six in the morning and couldn’t get back to sleep so I just stayed in bed playing on Ye Olde iPade.  Once up, I had a quick visit with a local CD dealer.  Then I answered e-mails and had a couple of telephonic conversations, after which I went and had a chili, cheese and onion omelet and no potatoes and an English muffin.  It was quite a pithy meal.  Then I picked up some Xeroxing I’d had done at Staples, then did some banking, then picked up one little package o’ stuff that will come with Red Gold for those who purchase at Kritzerland.  The helper came by, and then I decided that was it and took the rest of the day off.  So, I just sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched four more episodes of House of Cards, starring Mr. Kevin Spacey.  Starting with episode three, David Fincher was no longer directing, and I must say I felt the four subsequent episodes weren’t quite up to the level of the first two, directorially, even though Fincher absolutely established the style template that the other directors are using.  It’s still compelling viewing and a lot of fun, but part of my growing problem is that I really don’t care for politics.  It’s fun watching Mr. Spacey outsmart everyone (save for one setback) and the actors are all very good and there’s not too much whispering going on.  Rooney Mara’s sister Kate is one of the leads – she looks just like Rooney.  Episodes three and four were directed by James Foley and episodes five and six were directed by Joel Schumacher.  According to the list I’ve seen, Mr. Fincher hasn’t been back since.  I see that Jodie Foster directed one of the new season’s episodes, as has Robin Wright.  When they let the actors in the show start directing, for me that’s the kiss of death – whenever Mad Men did that, those were the worst episodes.  I guess I have six left now.

I did sit in the Jacuzzi for about fifteen minutes.  I did something to my lower back because for the last week I’ve had a sharp pain down there – well, it starts there and goes a bit lower.  I suspect I pinched a nerve, but I’m really hoping it goes away soon because it’s really quite irritating.

Today, I shall be up early, I’ll do some errands and whatnot and then I will satisfy the craving I have for the Kansas City Barbecue.  On House of Cards, Kevin Spacey frequents a rib jernt and every time he’s shown eating ribs there my craving gets stronger.  Normally, I just have a brisket sandwich, but today I may have a half-rack of ribs.  We shall see.  Hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, and then I’ll continue watching House of Cards until it’s time for my seven-thirty dinner meeting.

Tomorrow, I may or may not have a lunch meeting (looking doubtful) but I will be seeing the darling daughter at some point during the day, so that will be fun.  I also have to do the blurb for our new release and get all that ready to announce on Monday morning.  Otherwise, next week is very busy, choosing songs and finishing casting for the Kritzerland show, then getting everyone their music, plus two Sandy and Lanny work sessions, and several other meetings and meals and seeing a couple of shows, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do errands and whatnot, eat barbecue, hopefully pick up packages, watch episodes and have a dinner meeting.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite books, films, TV shows and plays with a political theme?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream with much pith or at least be on the path to pith.
