THE WHOLE KIT AND CABOODLE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I just spent the last two-and-a-half hours on the telephonic device – I hope I did some good in my ability to be a reasonable referee.  More I cannot say at this time, oh, yes, more I cannot say – at this time.  But you see, now it is very late and I must write these here notes in a hurry or there will be hell toupee.

May I just say that yesterday was a very long day?  Well, I just said it, so I guess I can.  I got up at ten after eight hours of sleep, printed out more orders (Centennial Summer is doing VERY well), then the helper came by and we went and had some breakfast.  I had eggs and sausage and only one piece of toast.  Then we proceeded to Costco.  Once there we got our products, including some nice fresh flowers, some fruity things, some low-fat low-cal Bonbel cheese things, some salami things, a lot of water things, a couple of shirt things and I think that was about it.  I then picked up two count them two packages.

We came back home and the helper put the flowers in vases and then left.  I, on the other hand, called Apple Care to deal with how wonky the Mac Mail program has been.  It had frozen, and I couldn’t even get it to show up and kept getting error messages.  So, I restarted the computer and THAT wouldn’t work.  Once on the phone, we restarted again and it did work, then I launched mail and it worked but immediately started doing what it’s been doing three or four times a day – downloading redundantly more than 50,000 e-mails, ones that are in the accounts, ones that are saved – it does it because it thinks it has to, even though they’re all already there.  They put me over to a Mail expert and we did a screen sharing session so he could see first hand what it was doing.  He said it wasn’t normal.  We checked all the settings, all of which were fine.  Then he had me take some folders out of somewhere and put them in my desktop, at which point we resynched or did something and that part was going to take about forty minutes, but he was sure it would fix everything.  Then I got off the phone and had to deal with some other drama, which began the referee stuff mentioned above.

After that, I checked the mail and everything seemed to be working fine and it’s only done the download thing once, so maybe it’s okay – the guy gave me his personal contact information in case the problems continue.  I then did a two-and-a-half mile jog.  I then had to hurry and be on my way to a meeting at the home of Doug Haverty.

Last night, I had a meeting at the home of Doug Haverty.  This was about a project that would happen next summer – some folks had some questions, which I answered, and Doug thinks it will all get the official green light very soon, at which point I will tell all of you dear readers all about it. Doug had three pizzas from Dino’s – one pepperoni, one sausage and one olives and mushrooms and spinach, oh my.  Naturally I did not go near the latter and in fact only did the pepperoni and was a really good boy, having only two of their small slices.  I’d also been given a beautiful cherry pie and I shared some of that with the folks there – I had a small piece, since I’d only had the two slices, and this pie was one of the best cherry pies I’ve ever had.

After that, I came home and watched a little of a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, the Billy Wilder film.  I have always loved the film, even though it’s not what Mr. Wilder had in mind.  I wish I could tell you it’s the transfer we’ve all been waiting for, but it’s so far from that it’s not even funny.  It is, in fact, the same transfer used for the decade old DVD – which means filled with scratches and from a fading internegative.  For me, the latter is just an unforgiveable problem – I cannot stand faded color.  I will finish watching it, but it’s really not much of an upgrade from the DVD – just a bit sharper.

I then had the volley of telephonic calls, which literally took up the rest of the evening.

Today, I shall definitely jog, hopefully pick up some mail, start doing an edit road map for one of our upcoming projects, and then I’m going to sup, after which I’m seeing Scott Dreier’s Doris and Me.  I will, of course, have a full report for you.

Tomorrow evening I’ll be doing some mix fixes – it’s just some very minor things to adjust – mostly to do with noises on a few of the tracks – shouldn’t take more than an hour, if that.  Once that’s done, then we will be back in the studio on August 9 to do one more hour of band fixes, then we’ll put those into those tracks and we’ll finally be able to send the whole kit and caboodle to Mr. Kander.  I’ve been waiting to send the whole kit and caboodle to someone, and this is a perfect opportunity.  I sent the kit to one person and the caboodle to another, but I like sending them together, don’t you?  Friday I’ll probably have an afternoon meeting of some sort, and Sunday I may or may not be seeing a production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, hopefully pick up packages, do a road map, eat and see a show.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall put the kit and the caboodle together, so I can be ready to send them to some worthy individual.
