AND THE PARTY GOES ROUND

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had a wonderful launch party for And the World Goes Round at the El Portal Theater in NoHo.  We got there around five and set everything up, got the wine delivered, the food out, the plates and cutlery and the cake, above all, the cake.  The helper was there to help and she brought one helper of her own to check people in as they arrived.  Then at about 6:45, JoAnne Worley arrived and we were off and running.  Because she was fifteen minutes early we had a chance to hang out and yak and that was just too much fun.  Michael Lamont was there to photograph everything and I’ll have his stuff in about a week to share with you.  We had wonderful people there – there were a bunch of no-shows, but there still seemed to be about seventy people or more there, which was just right for the space (we were in the lobby).  Among the guests (I won’t remember everyone), we had JoAnne, Joan Ryan, Sami Staitman and her mom, critics Steven Stanley, Rob Stevens and Les Spindle, Cabaret Scenes’ Les Traub, Cynthia Ferrer, Grace Notes’ Susan Grace, our very own Donald Feltham, Heather Lee, Lydia and Greer Geissman, Shelly Markham, Adryan Russ and Dale Alan Cooke, Michael Sterling, Doug Haverty, Jonathan White and Devin Kelly and many, many others.  Representing the album were musical director Joshua Eli Kranz, cast members Kyra Da Costa, Jason Graae (with his ever-lovin’ Glen Fretwell, whose birthday it was), and Kristin Towers-Rowles, along with Joshua’s folks, whose company served as executive producers.

The food was terrific (I didn’t actually eat any of it until after I got home), I’m told the cake was great (didn’t have any) but it was the attendees that made it so much fun.  Two hours was about all I could do and I bolted right after nine – most people had left by then anyway.  I’m just not really a party person.  I came home, ate what in essence was four taquitos and a quesadilla and that was that.

Prior to all that, I’d gotten seven hours of sleep, did some work on the computer, went and had a cup of soup and a bagel to tide me over, then came home and got a bit of relaxing in.  Then our very own Mr. Nick Redman came by with the new Twilight Time releases, which I’m looking forward to.  We had a nice chat, watched some of Audrey Rose and The Blob, just to see how it looked on my system, and then it was time for me to get ready for the partay.

Today, I have a brief lunch meeting, but mostly I’ll be home trying to organize for the New York shows (something went haywire somewhere and we ended up with one person too many for each show, in terms of cast, and it’s been hellish trying to make that work and figure it out without making the shows too long.  I think I’ve got it down now, but need to make sure.  At some point someone is stopping by to pick up a CD.  I’ll then go through my commentary and make sure that’s all working and finesse what needs to be finessed.  Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and then I’ll relax.

Tomorrow I will probably have the work session then I have a dinner, Thursday I think I’m attending a book signing in Burbank, and then I believe I have to see a show or something over the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, have a brief lunch meeting, hopefully pick up packages, organize, finesse and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What was the most fun party you’ve ever been to and why the HELL was it so much damn fun?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that our launch partay was a success.
