MOVING RIGHT ALONG

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think I’m going to do what I did last night – write these here notes, schedule them and get to bed by eleven at the latest so I can hopefully get a good night’s beauty sleep.  That didn’t quite work out the night before because I woke up in the middle of the night for an hour, but at least I got seven hours of blessed sleep.  So, moving right along…

Yesterday I was up at six, announced, and went back to bed for a little over an hour of additional sleep.  I was at the theater by 9:45.  The helper came at ten, and while the stage manager put in the gal who missed both staging days last week, the helper and I kind of did some boilerplate moves for that same gal’s act one solo.  Then we staged it with her and it came out really cute.  Then we went back and did the opening number and cleaned that up, then we continued from where we’d left off.  I got the end of act one done, then skipped the first number of act two, which is long and involved, because two people had to leave early.  Instead we mushed on with two very long scenes and a couple of solo numbers, leaving us only about twenty pages left.  But in that twenty pages there are three numbers that require big staging.  So, what I may do is finish all the scenes and the easy numbers and then do all the big stuff in one day.  I may bring the helper back to just give the stuff – I can do it, but I’m not that good at counts and the technical stuff that makes things easier.  We shall see.  But in three days we’ve gotten a whole lot done and I’m still hoping that we’ll be roughly but fully blocked by Friday.

After rehearsal, I went and had a chicken salad sandwich and no fries or onion rings, then came home.  I answered e-mails, printed out orders, did some work on the computer, had some telephonic calls, proofed about forty pages, then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Netflix entitled The Unlikely Girl.  I’m not sure what you’d say it is – a US film or a French film or whatever.  Certainly it was shot in France with French actors save for one gal, who is played by Kelly Lynch’s very grown up daughter.  But mostly everyone speaks English.  I thought it would be at least fun to watch, one of those you’re not quite sure who is who and why they’re doing what they’re doing, but the film is a complete muddle from beginning to end.  And I have to tell you I am really tired of films shot on digital, or at least the low-budget ones.  They just look awful to my eyes.  The actors are nothing to write home about and the musical score becomes tiresome after a while.

After that, I relaxed, took a shower, had some more telephonic conversations, did some work at the piano, and that was that.

Today, I’ll be up early and to the theater by ten.  We’ll continue staging the scenes and the easy numbers and try to get through all of that.  Then I’ll either grab a really quick bite to eat or come straight home if there’s not enough time to eat.  Then we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, which I’m very much looking forward to.  If I haven’t eaten prior, then I’ll go after, but I think I really need to eat before.  If I get out of rehearsal right at two sharp, I can be somewhere by two-fifteen and be out of there by three-fifteen and home in time by four.

Tomorrow is another rehearsal and then a walk-through at our theater.  Thursday is a rehearsal and then I have a lunch, I think.  Friday is a rehearsal and then we do our second Kritzerland rehearsal.  If I’m not totally zonked on Saturday then I’ll do the drive to Pasadena for the book fair.  Sunday is our stumble-through and Monday is our sound check and show, following our morning rehearsal.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, rehearse, rehearse (just realized the Kritzerland rehearsal is at three), eat, and proof.  Today’s topic of discussion:  What’s the worst weather you’ve ever been in?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall arise and keep moving right along.
