TUMMY TROUBLE TUESDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I either had a touch of food poisoning or a small stomach bug yesterday.  I only got around two hours of sleep.  I thankfully didn’t vomit on the ground or anything, but it was still touch and go for a while.  I kept getting up in the middle of the night to drink soda because it felt like I was topping off and the soda would make me belch and that alleviated the problem somewhat.  I finally got out of bed around ten and got ready for the eleven o’clock meeting with the musical director of Inside Out.  I’m not sure it’s quite the meeting any of us were thinking it would be, but it should all be fine in the end.  We also set our fourth cast member, the excellent Stephanie Fredericks.  We should be setting our fifth cast member today and then it’s five down and one to go.  Once the meeting was over, I futzed and finessed for close to ninety minutes, adding a little here, removing a little there and rewriting a little here and there.  Once done with that, I began new pages and did two right away.  But I just wasn’t feeling up to snuff so I took a break.

The helper came by to go over some end of year stuff, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched the first fifty minutes of Gone Girl, which I’d seen at the DGA some months ago.  So far, I’m liking it a bit less than I did before and I didn’t like it much before.  I feel it has several casting flaws that really harm the film.  It’s all well put together, but from what I’m told, the book does a much better job telling this story than Mr. Fincher does.

After that, I wrote another four or five pages, then it was time to sup with our very own Mr. Nick Redman and his lovelier than lovely daughter Rebecca, who has turned into a most assured and delightfully delightful young woman.  We went to Nick’s favorite Valley jernt, the Thai restaurant Talesai.  We were the only ones there.  I was feeling better so I had a salad, some white rice, a small dish of cashew chicken and some Pad Thai.  I obviously hadn’t eaten in quite a while, so it was nice to get some food in me that I’m hoping will stay in me for the duration.  We had lots o’ laughs, and then I headed back home.  Once here, it was right back to writing – or should that be write back to righting – and I did another seven pages or so for a total of almost thirteen.  Then I took a shower and that was that.

Today, I don’t think I’ll take my car in in the morning, as I will hopefully sleep until at least ten.  The helper will be by to do some more stuff and then I’ll futz and finesse, write new pages, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, write, have a short rehearsal with Sarah Staitman, and relax.

Tomorrow is our second Kritzerland rehearsal and I will, of course, also be writing and will be delivering the first set of pages to Muse Margaret.  Friday and Saturday are mostly writing with maybe a dinner, and then Sunday is our stumble-through and Monday is our sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, futz and finesse, write, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, rehearse, write and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hopefully rid of the tummy trouble.
