DNS IS THE NEW PITA (PAIN IN THE ASS)

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, what happened to dear readers Laura, Kevin and Kerry has happened to me and I cannot access this here site from the computer, which means I am pecking out these here notes one letter at a time one finger at a time. They know what the problem is, something to do with DNS servers and Google not communicating. It doesn’t affect everyone but it’s affected me since six last night. It’s way too hard to write full notes this way, so I’m going to keep them short and sweet.

Yesterday was a wacky day. First I went and did an audio commentary with Jean Louisa Kelly for the upcoming Blu and Ray of The Fantasticks.  We had fun and I think it came out okay. Then I came right home and had a telephonic meeting about the ALS benefit.

Then we had our second Kritzerland rehearsal. Singers did very well and then our guest star Bruce Vilanch came and we went over his number Losing My Mind. After that, I went and had a patty melt, then came back home. I then had an endless back and forth about the DNS problems, then I did some work on the computer.

Well, I’m back on the computer, after my web guy said they’re still working on the problem but with no ETA.  So, we went into my settings and changed the DNS server setting from Google (which is having the problem that’s affecting a lot of sites and a lot of users on their computers) to AT&T and that at least got me on here.  So, I’m continuing these here notes – not writing them in Word, but directly into the form, since I’d already done the first part on the iPad.  To be more detailed about the audio commentary, I’d taken some NyQuil the night before and was so out of it when Nick Redman called to say he’d see me in ninety minutes.  Once I was coherent, I printed out the notes I’d done for the session, and then got ready quickly to head over to the place where he does all the audio commentaries for Twilight Time.  I got there a little ahead of time, read through my stuff, and then Jean Louisa Kelly showed up.  We chatted for a bit, all of us, then she and I went into the room and we began.  While we talked the movie ran on a screen in front of us (and looked really good, I must say).  I began with some general stuff about her and how she got the film, then went into a history of the show and some details about it and who’d done it over the years, then talked about the TV version a bit, then talked about the aborted Gower Champion film version that I auditioned for, and then we just talked about a whole lot o’ stuff.  I think I could have paced the history stuff better and spread it out more, because at the seventy-minute point I kind of ran out of things to talk about.  But we mushed on and hopefully it’s all light and fun, and she is truly delightful and amazingly looks just the same as she did in the movie, which is now twenty years old.  I’m looking forward to revisiting it with sound when the Blu-ray comes out.

The rehearsal didn’t really have any surprises, but I will say this particular cast is very on top of their lyrics, which makes me rest easier.  I really didn’t want to spend my evening dealing with this DNS crapola, but alas, that is exactly what I did.  I just wish we’d changed the DNS thing four hours before we finally did.

Today, I shall have an early lunch meeting at Dino’s Pizza.  I love Dino’s Pizza and I’m sure I’ll eat at least three slices of pepperoni pizza, maybe even four, as their slices are actually quite small – two of them would equal one slice of NY pizza.  After the meeting I’ll definitely pick up some packages, then I’m coming home to rest, and then I’ll attend our evening performance of Inside Out.  After the show, Doug Haverty is having a middle-of-the-run partay, which I’ll attend for a bit.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye comes, so I’ll have to go do some things, and then at three we have our stumble-through, which I’m very much looking forward to.  I may or may not attend the evening performance – it will depend on how I feel.  Sunday, I may or may not spend a couple of hours with Grant Geissman on book design, but at four we have our sound check and then at seven our show.  Right now, we’re only ten seats from being completely filled up with no room to spare.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting at Dino’s Pizza, during which I’ll eat some Dino’s Pizza, pick up packages, relax and then attend a performance of Inside Out.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start.  CD, who knows?  Blu and Ray, probably Calamity Jane.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have changed the DNS server number to one that actually works.
