THE TIRED NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, these here notes may be more incoherent than usual due to the fact that I only had about three hours of sleep.  This seems to be the routine after a Kritzerland show.  I fall asleep around two, wake up at four, finally fall back asleep around eight and have to get up at nine.  Why I oughta… And thus it was and was it thus.  I was light-headed from lack of sleep all the livelong day.  Once up, the new helper came by for a brief moment, then I answered e-mails and did stuff on the computer until it was time to mosey on over to a lunch meeting with Kay Cole.  We had a fun time, talked about a couple of projects and laughed a lot.  Musical director Jeff Rizzo stopped by to say hello.  I had a turkey sandwich and no fries or onion rings.

After that, I went to the mail place to pick up packages – hadn’t been there in almost five days so imagine my surprise that there WERE no packages to pick up.  There was some mail, but that was it.  Then I came home and spent the next three hours finessing Sami’s mom’s Indiegogo campaign for Welcome to My World.  I finessed the blurbs, and the wording of the perks.  We have some really fun ones because we wanted there to be perks for people who aren’t in LA but might like to take part – so, the cast album CD at a nice discount, sheet music, signed posters, and then the usual tickets to the show at a considerable savings, and for those who like that sort of thing, the higher levels offer associate producer and above-the-title co-producer credits.  We also included a dinner with Sami and me at The Smoke House at one of the higher perk levels.  Anyway, after all that, she launched the campaign and pretty quickly we were at 6% funded.  She’s hoping a lot of her family and relatives plus the parents of Sami’s friends will partake of the perks that involve buying the tickets in advance.  That’s how we got a lot of the Inside Out contributions when Doug Haverty did that campaign.  Anyway, check it out – there’s a video, plus in the gallery another video of highlights from the workshop presentation.  Here’s the handy-dandy link:

Then I made some tuna and just ate it without bread, so a reasonable snack.  I was way too tired to jog so took a day off from that.  Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched an interesting documentary on the Flix of Net entitled An Honest Liar, about the magician and escape artist The Amazing Randi.  He has spent years debunking faith healers and other charlatans who try to bilk the public with their cons.  That part of the documentary, which is roughly the first half, is very interesting and one wishes there were more of it, but the second half of the film takes a turn and gets into the personal relationship Randi has with his long-time partner, who, it turns out, assumed someone else’s name and papers in order to stay in the United States.  They catch up with him, he’s thrown in jail, but it all plays out fine in the end.  But that’s not what’s advertised, but it’s somewhat affecting anyway, but I think that there should have been more of the debunking stuff, with much more detail about it.  But I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Here are two videos from Sunday night’s show (and I’ll have more shortly).  The first is ten-year-old Hadley Miller singing Fat Sam’s Grand Slam and Speakeasy from Bugsy Malone.

Then here’s Jaidyn Young doing a lovely rendition of Flying Dreams from The Secret of NIMH.  The music is by Jerry Goldsmith, lyrics by Paul Williams.

Today, I will be choosing songs and gathering music, and continuing to cast the next show.  We’ve got one gal so far – not sure there will be any young folks in this one, although I wouldn’t mind a great young person who could do You’re Gonna Hear From Me.  I’ll eat something very light, jog, hopefully pick up packages, and then I’ll have a late but light supper with Jenna Lea Rosen and her mom.

The rest of the week is locking down the Kritzerland show, some meetings and meals, and seeing a couple of shows.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat something very light, jog, choose songs, cast, and have a late supper.  Today’s topic of discussion: Who are the best magicians you’ve ever seen and what tricks completely bamboozled you?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall hopefully sleep through the night and wake up refreshed.
